silk and gold are not allowed.. just dont wear red near a bull
I have never read anywhere a prohibition on men wearing red.. this is the first time that I’ve seen the concept. Can someone come forward with any evidence to support this?
As for silk, have to fatwas to link for you.

*Beautification and elegance are not merely permitted but are required by Islam, and in general it repudiates any attempts to prohibit them. Say: Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of His providing? (7:32)
Islam has, however, prohibited two kinds of adornment for men, while permitting them to women. These are, first, gold ornaments and, second, clothing made of pure silk. ‘All reported that the Prophet (peace be on him) took some silk in his right hand and some gold in his left, declaring, “These two are haram for the males among my followers.” (Reported by Ahmad, Abu Daoud, al-Nisai, Ibn Hayyan, and lbn Majah, who reports the additional phrase, “but halal for the females.”) ‘Umar reported that he heard the Prophet (peace be on him) say, “Do not wear silk, for those who wear it in this life shall not wear it in the Hereafter.” (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim. A Similar hadith is reported by them on the authority of Anas.) On another occasion, referring to a silken garment, he said, "This is the dress of a man who has no character.’’ (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim.)
The Prophet (peace be on him) made concessions in the wearing of silken garments for medical reasons, as he gave 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Auf and al-Zubayr bin al-'Awwam, both of whom suffered from scabies, permission to wear silk. (Reported by al-Bukhari.) *

The scholars also allowed men to wear garments containing four fingers’ width of silk, because of the Hadith of `Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the wearing of silk except for an area the width of two fingers, or three or four (meaning a small amount of silk that equals two, three, or four close fingers). (Reported by Muslim, 3/1644)”

sometime ago i enquired about Suraqa's kangans and how they were supposed to be ok for a Sahabi... any explanation?
Mr. PakistaniAbroad:
Siraqa wearing the kangan from Kisra was a fulfilment of a prophecy by the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Hazrat Umar after the conquest of Kisra gave the kangan to Siraqa for the fulfilment of prophecy. There was no historical evidence that Siraqa used to wear those gold kangans all the time.
Is it mentioned in the Quran?
I am so worried now, I must throw away the Ayat-ul-Kursi necklaces in the gutter now, that mama had adorned my neck with when I was born. I hope my silk tie collection is safe? Is it? Hermes, man. 250 a pop! It hurts to be a muslim.
Hi,
I think we have to look into spirit of not allowing Muslim man not to wear silk and gold. Islam wants men to have a distinct identity from women. Historicaly gold is used by ladies as ornaments and is associated with a class of society. In Arab those days, gold is associated with the feminine side of the society.
Islam also doesn't want its followers to indulge in the material things of this world. One of which is gold but could also be applied to expensive diamonds and other expensive stones worn by men. Because indulging in these practices would not benefit anybody in the society.
Bhaijan, Gold is a universally traded commodity, and people's lives depend on this trade. A poor goldminer in South Africa could care less what the Islam says. Same is true for silk. The entire Central Asia existed with the silk trade (hence called the Silk route), and people's lives depended on that trade. Luckily we are not living in the 7th century, and one can still be modest by wearing a wedding band or putting on a silk tie (which might be a gift from a girl you made happy some time ago). Islam is above these tiny details about what to wear. One can be an idiot in the most modest attire, and one can similarly be an idiot in the most lavish and extravagant one.
^ if that is the case. wouldn't it mean that these tenets are for a bygone era?

If Hadrat Umar had to do it.. it wasn't fullfilment of a 'prophecy' it was following out orders.. and if the prophet prophesized seeing Saraqa wearing them the 'prophecy' only gets fulfilled if he 'wears' them.
Mr. PakistaniAbroad
The Holy Prophet said to Suraqa "Suraqa, how will you feel with the gold bangles of the king of Iran on your wrists?" Suraqa was amazed to hear this prophecy. Later he accepted Islam and lived in Medina. It so happened that during the Khilafat of Hazrat Umar, Iran and its treasures fell to Muslims, including the gold bangles which the king used to wear on State functions. Hazrat Umar sent for Suraqa and asked him to wear those gold bangles. "How can I wear them?" said Suraqa, "for the wearing of gold is forbidden in Islam for men." Hazrat Umar said, "I know, but you will wear them in order to fulfil the prophecy of the Holy Prophet." So Suraqa put on those gold bangles and thus the prophecy made by the Holy Prophet years earlier was fulfilled to the letter.
Did it answer to your question or not?

no sir it didn't.
First off you didn't provide a reference for this convenient narrative. and secondly, Prophets don't make half-ass prophecies.. if the Prophet sees the bangles "on Suraqah's wrists" he probably missed his own ruling of declaring gold haraam for his followers.. u see where the contradiction is going?
Men are advised not to wear gold or silk.. they are not ordered! And this thing doesnt hamper someones modernity.. and is fully applicable today.. wearing no gold is no problem.. and digging too.. coal miner doesnt need to wear what he/she digs.. by silk it maens silk clothes unless one only wears .. though i expected something different from NYAhmadi in regard to tie.. then I dont think there would be a big deal.. one is advised to refrain with these things..
Mr. PakistaniAbroad:
Do you know what the prophecy of 'Suraqa' wearing gold bangels is realy about? Its about the conquest of Iran by Muslims because in the prophecy it was said : Suraqa, how will you feel with the gold bangles of the king of Iran on your wrists?
So when Iran was conquered by Muslims, the prophecy was fulfilled in its real meaning but Hazrat Umar RA asked Suraqa to wear the bangels of the king of Iran just to literaly fulfill the prophecy.

I love this wriggling trying to ‘explain’ hadiths..
you can’t eat your cake and have it.. either the prohpecy was allegorical.. in that case didn’t Hadrat Umar had the acumen to know?? why did he debase the higher meaning word of the prophet by alluding a ‘haraam’ action to it??
and u still don’t have the reference to this ‘explanation’.. anyone can come up with justifications for hadith contradictions..
^ Your point is very valid indeed! Either the Suraqa story is zaeef or otherwise. Maybe there is an explanation for it. Could somebody look it up.
PakistaniAbroad, thanks for pointing this out.
yaaar wear whatever u wear just be carefull not 2 wear what is told rest will b fine
