Are men not allowed to........

Mr. PakistaniAbroad:

Do you think that wearing gold all the times is equal to wearing gold just for a moment to fulfill the prophecy in literal sense! Suraqa didn't use to wear those gold bangels of King of Iran all the times. He was asked to wear them just for a moment by Hazrat Umar RA to literaly fulfill the prophecy. I don't know how you are equating those two things together.

And You are also missing the spirit behind the Hadith which forbades men to wear gold. Historicaly gold is associated with women and their feminine side and Islam doesn't want muslim men to act in a feminine way. And wearing gold is also a way of showing materialistic wealth which is also discouraged by Islam. When Suraqa wore those bangels, Was he showing his wealth to other people? The answer is No!

That's what happens when you rely on centuries old texts to tell you everything from how to dress to how to relieve yourself. Culture and norms change. What wass considered feminine in the 7th century is not necessarily feminine today. Not only are these norms based on ancient culture, they are based on ancient *Arabic
culture. What is considered feminine in Arabia is not necessarily feminine in Sweden. (I happen to think that the traditional headress of Arabs looks feminine, even though it does nothing to make Arafat look pretty.) If Islam is the religion for the whole world, you can not expect people of distant cultures to look to Arabia as the fashion mecca (excuse the pun) of the world.

fatheahmed: seriously dude.. just accept it rather than cooking up a minute by minute account of Suraqa’s life.

:hehe: how do you keep coming up with these?? are u writing as we go just to explain contradictions?

Everything forbidden is in the Qur’an.. what’s not is open for debate.. argue till the cows come home but men aren’t forbidden to wear gold or silk.

[18:31] These it is for whom are gardens of perpetuity beneath which rivers flow, ornaments shall be given to them therein of bracelets of gold, and they shall wear green robes of fine silk and thick silk brocade interwoven with gold, reclining therein on raised couches; excellent the recompense and goodly the resting place.

Mr. PakistaniAbroad:

I never wrote that wearing gold is absolutely forbidden like having drinking wine or eating pork! It cannot be called a 'Haram'. Holy Prophet discouraged with the muslim men to wear gold and I have given the possible reasons for that in my earlier post.

And you also quoted a verse from the Holy Quran about Jannat. If you believe that Jannat would have all the materialistic things like we do have in this earth, then I can' argue with you. But I believe that Jannat is a place for spiritual advancement and have no rooms for material things and Holy Quran is only using metaphors while talking about gold, money, honey etc. etc.

Mr. PakistaniAbroad:

Do you think that the story about Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) prophecising about Suraqa wearing gold bangels, a hoax?

it's heartening that you know the description of heaven is allegorical.. what you're missing is the point that Allah uses all 'good things' for the metaphor... He never says it'll be like 'fornication' or like 'eating a juicy sirloin steak from pork.

don't get me started on what's a hoax and what's not.. but you can set matters straight by providing a reference.

Man sometimes people start twisting things to mould them into what they ougth convenient for them. Its just funny how people cook up stories and give reasons for what they think it was or is. Any ways I found some Ahadith on Silk and GOLD being Haram. Did’nt wana past them as some of the people here have objected to me pasting things.
