Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

I really hate to be called an Asean and consider it to be insulting. Culturally, religiously, linguistically and racially, people of Indian subcontinent are no way anywhere near to their East Asean neighbours. So why should we expect our part of the world to be regarded as a part of Asea. In fact Indian subcontinent which consists of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka should be regarded as a new continent and we should all be called Indians and not Aseans.

In fact I would like to propose that the international community should recognise Asea as consisting of three continents:

ASEA, INDIA and ARABIA

India is almost like Europe with several linguistic and cultural groups and having almost a dozen scripts. No other continent in the world has got a dozen scripts. So why are we all subgrouped as Aseans? When an ocean can be named after India, why not similar logic apply for the continent too?

Let me know what others hold on this topic?

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

I know it doesn't make sense to lump us with the far east asians, but this is merely a geographical denotation, not a racial or cultural one. Europe is filled with a variety of people that are very different from one another. You have Romany gypsys and Finns, Italians and Russians. Same goes with Africa. People in Algeria are very different from the ones in Rwanda.

Anyways, I doubt Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, and Sri Lankans would want to be called "Indians." South Asian, yes, but Indian, no.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

Of course they are friggin Asians.

Asia is not a specific race, it is a continent/geographical location so Desis, Arabs, Hebrews, Malaysians, Iranians, Turks and Chinese are all Asian.

Asian doesn't mean race, ethnicity or culture. All of us being called Asian doesn't make us related or anything, Asia is a diverse place.

Even Indian is not a race, culture, nation or ethnicity, a Tamil has absoloutley nothing in common with someone from east India.

Like someone mentioned there are Rroma gypsies in Europe who are Desi and their language is closley related to Punjabi, Hindko and Hindiurdu.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

indians and Pakistanis belong to the same continent but Indians are largely negroid(blacks) while we, Pakistanis are largely caucasians(whites) although we are close to each other geographically.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

^
Oh please, Pakis have Dravidian mixed into them too.

Punjabis see 1/10 Punjabis who is remotely fair skinned and they think they're all white, lolz.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

that's true

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

:smack: …a same breed of earlier topics:blush:

yeah…according many here indians are dark, pakistanis are milk white blah blah blah…some blah may be true also.

Besides i didn’t like the idea of asea. When things like SAARC dont work properly, why fly high.

Besides, sal35 what is your nationality?..kindly answer this first before we go any further.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

No sane Pakistani will propose to have Pakistan called India, so sal35 is Indian.

The thing about black Indians and white Pakistanis isnt really true. They're all mixed up in northern India and Pakistan, but south India has a large population of darker Indians, the top parts are even.

We are asians... asians arent only the yellow race, thats only a stereotypical meaning of asian...asian is anybody from asia.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

We are south Asians

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

Arabs are not Asians.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

Yes they are, they are West Asians, Arabian-Peninsula (saudi, pali, yemen, uae...) is not a continent in itself, it is part of West Asia.

North African Arabs such as Morrocans, Egyptians and Tunisians are not because they are North African.

Like I said Asian is not any race, ethnicity or nationality, it is only a name of a region.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

Ok.. But the mixture is less in Pakistan compared to Northern India- thats why 70-75% Pakistanis look Greek/Italian/Latino while that percentage might be 5-10% for North Indians. Even Pakistani Punjabis are way lighter, taller and more european looking when compared to Punjabi Sikhs or Hindoos.. why is that?

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

You're right, I am an Indian but always mistaken as Pakistani.

But...part of my family is Pakistani.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

You must be very light-skinned thats why you are mistaken for Pakistani.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

No I am fair brown by western standard but of course fair by Indian standard. I am mistaken because of my north Indian look and muslim name.

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

So, you are an Indian muslim? How do they treat muslims in India? Most of the North Hindoos are dark skinned.. only muslims throughout India are fair

Re: Are Indians and Pakistanis Aseans?

this is one of the most retarted posts ever.
