Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

This is a question which is often raised and many people in India believe it to be true. But few years back I observed a peculiar phenomena which forced me to look this issue from a different perspective.

An easy way to measure whether a particular muslim is a pro-pakistani is to watch his body language during India-Pakistan cricket match. I have relatives settled in Northern part as well as in southern part of India (and in Pakistan too). None of my relatives have mixed with any other group and speak the same language at home. So my relatives in northern and southern part share similar cultural values and genetic identity. In northern part I found most of my relatives would cheer with every good stroke by a Pakistani cricketer. But in southern part it was just opposite. My southern relatives would rejoice with every good shot of Indian team. And when India won then we had a big party at home.

This made me to ponder why my southern relatives were pro-Indian and why my northern relatives were mostly pro-Pakistani. I finally came up with a convincing answer after several deep thoughts. I would share my views only after receiving the replies from other members.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Firstly, they are so many hindu friends who openly support Pakistan cricket team, and I used to argue with them. The only reason they wud give is we like the spirit of Pakistani team, we cant call them anti-indians(this is repeated in the other thread).

Secondly, what you say is exactly right the Northies are pro pakistan comparitively to the southies, but I wouldl rather put it this way, the percentage of northies pro-paki is greater than the southies pro-paki.

Indeed, i feel its a strong inclination as most of the northies muslims relative have migrated to Pakistan in comparison to the southies. But let me get this difference out the Hyderabadis are a touch more compared to other south indian states.

But according to me the percentage must be 70% - 30% approximately for Pro-India without doubt, supporters for India is greater compared to Pakistan.

I am just waiting for your observation sal35.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

I haven't come across any muslim in india who is pro-pakistani but, at the same time, I dont have any muslim who is a close friend of mine other than just going out rarely with some of them. But yes, from what i have heard from others, there are indian muslims who are pro-pakistani.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Indian muslims are pro-India and very patriotic. My Indian Muslim friends want nothing to do with Pakistan and I can see why :D

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

I wouldnt call suppporting the Pakistani cricket team as anti-India necessarily. Despite being a Indian Hindu, I have supported the Pakistani cricket team when its playing against an opponent other than India. Even in India games, I have cheered every good stroke & every great ball.

I firmly believe that the average Indian Muslim is as patriotic as an Indian Hindu. However, its the so called religious leaders and clerics whose intentions are questionable. They are the ones who believe in a separatist ideology and are not in favor of the common Muslim integrating with the Indian mainstream.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

and most importantly, muslims dont show tolerance towards each other like sunni, shia , ahmedi etc clashes. So, it becomes difficult to expect for them to be supportive towards others.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

No, they are not.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Indian muslims are from India and they love their motherland. They have nothing to do with Pakistan and most of them do not want to be associated with Pakistan. They do not care for a "ummah" and are much closer to their sikh and hindu brethrens. It is the same situation with hindus in Pakistan. Pakistani hindus are more patriotic than Pakistani muslims and that is simply because they love their motherand no matter what state is governing it.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Well in my opinion, sal35's northern relatives can be advised to migrate to Pakistan. Nowadays air-links, rail-links and road-links are restored so I guess these are the best times to migrate. Also sal35, which team do you cheer for ?

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

No Thanks. We do not need any more refugees in Pakistan. We already have too many Bengalis and Afghans to deal with.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

I know quaide azams' nephew who is a very rich man and lives in india is pro-India.I have to confess at times I have found myself supporting the Indian cricket team over Pakistan because I am a secular minded person, but after running into a few spiteful conniving hindus I am no longer doing that.:D

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

I dont understand why should we care about Indian Muslim if they are pro pak or not
As a Muslim we should support Muslim if they are in trouble like they were in Gujrat not long ago and before in Bombay

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Indian Muslims dont know where they sit... Most I have met are just indifferent..
Although there are some Indians who use cricket as the Desi barometer for patriotism, and according to them, some Indian Muslims have gone so far as to offer people mithai when the Paks have won a game.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

He is right. I laugh if the Cricket match can become a criteria for patriotism!

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

^^
A cricket match is the easisest way of manifesting your patriotism for your country. To distribute sweets when the opposing team wins is a means to show the world that you dont bother about your country.

Re: Are Indian muslims pro-Pakistani?

one bangladeshi guy asked me which cricket team do you support
i told him that if india plays i support india or else any team from subcontinent
