Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Can it get anymore pathetic?

Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry - DAWN.COM

WASHINGTON: Arab nations have offered to help pay for any US military intervention in Syria, Secretary of State John Kerry told lawmakers Wednesday as he sought support for missile strikes.

“With respect to Arab countries offering to bear the cost and to assist, the answer is profoundly yes, they have. That offer is on the table,” Kerry said as he appeared before a House of Representatives panel.

The offer was “quite significant,” he said.

“Some of them have said that if the United States is prepared to go do the whole thing the way we’ve done it previously in other places, they’ll carry that cost. That’s how dedicated they are to this.”

But he stressed: “Obviously, that is not in the cards and nobody is talking about it, but they are talking about taking seriously getting this job done.”

He was appearing before the House Foreign Affairs committee on the second day of the administration’s blitz on Capitol hill to persuade lawmakers to approve limited military strikes.

Washington has led charges that the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad unleashed sarin gas on August 21 against the residents of a Damascus suburb killing what a US intelligence report said was some 1,400 people.

President Barack Obama has insisted that Assad’s regime has crossed a red line against the use of such horrific weapons and should be punished and his military capability degraded.

But in a sign of the depth of opposition involvement in Syria, anti-war demonstrators held up red-stained hands behind Kerry’s head in a silent protest during his testimony.

Lawmakers are now drafting a resolution to go before Congress which would give the US administration a 60-day deadline for military intervention, which could be extended once for 30 more days. It would also bar any American boots on the ground.

Asked if the time limit was acceptable to administration, Kerry said it would be preferable to have “a trigger in there” if Assad used chemical weapons again.

He indicated that a move to give the White House a further 60 days every time such arms were used would be acceptable.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee meanwhile held a three-hour, classified session to try to thrash out a draft resolution after Republican veteran Senator John McCain appeared to balk at the plan because he felt it did not go far enough.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Why is is pathetic?

Arab countries can't attack Syria themselves because their own population centers are too exposed to direct Syrian chemical weapon retaliation - something that Syrua promised in 2012 would be done to any external aggressors.

It's only logical for them to essentially hire a faction that is not vulnerable to Syrian retaliation.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Shmraz khan wants us all killed.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

these same arab regimes paid America to destroy Iraq killing over 1.5 million people in the process, the treachery of these regimes is well known.

Turkey on its own can crush the Assad regime and its forces Turkey is very powerful military.

the problem is our rulers are cowards they have billion dollar latest weapons they have millions of soldiers and what are they doing begging the non muslims for a solution??

Lets face it Assad regime has used chemical attacks 14 times in last 2 years why is now it pushed America to issue air strike i am suspicious because there is another agenda going on.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

US would get oil. And what would Turkey get out of that? Punishment by US for invading a country?

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

What is US's problem? Just stay out of it. Aur invade karo aur maro So stupid. if only someone could slap sense into them

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

B/c thats kind of like paying a stranger to beat your wife because your wife has been behaving badly. And if she calls the police you can always blame the stranger for beating her.

Btw, this conflict does have a positive side because most of the foreign jihadis from Afghan/Pakistan regions are headed to these new conflict zones. Lets hope they stay there and meet their maker, and if not, maybe someday go after House of Saud?

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

I am now convinced that the 'chemical' weapon attack was not done by Assad but by Saudi's or Americans.

It is all a game for paying/getting US to attack Syria without the Sunni countries getting their hands dirty.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

That is the most absurd analogy I've read in a while. It would have been suffice to say that the time may come when these same leaders will be on the arbitrary receiving end of America's wrath...will they pay to avoid being obliterated?

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

And all those 80, 000 got slaughtered on Assad's hands?

Some people even claim that the uprising by the Syrians rebels against Assad was also part of US plan, I think we Muslims give US too much credit.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

No, most of the 80,000 were killed by the al-queda rebels.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Your claim is so ridiculous that I'm not even going to respond to it.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Those so-called Muslims, led by their Zionist masters, have proven once again why they deserve to be humiliated by their master, the state of Israel.
It is they who are now fighting along side the crusaders who have occupied Baitul Muqaddas.

I wish them success. I wish Assad disappears, Hezbollah disintegrates, and Iran has no allies left in the Levant. The Arabs would have lost every possible form of resistance against Israel in that case. And they would themselves have to blame for their own total subjugation.
Not even their terrorist friends in Free Syrian Army or Nusra Front would be able to resist the might of their Zionist masters in Israel.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Explain how they are led by Zionists?

Its a total cop out to blame all Arab incompetence as they are mid controlled by Jews.

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Hona tau yeh chahiye k:

Muslims should own up to Asad's crimes but say to the US and West, let us deal with the problem ourselves and punish him if he has indeed used chemical weapons (apparently butcher Bashar has used nerve agent 14 times on his people) and hold him accountable for his crimes. But because the Arabs are so stupid, brainless, divided and messed up themselves, it gives the US a free hand to do as she pleases

**I hope someone one day bombs the house of Saud, the real fitna in the muslim world. **Their intolerant Wahhabism has caused immense damage to the image of Islam around the world

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

@khoji,
I wonder what the actual idealogy that they live by is made of . They fail to live together harmonously within themselves and also fail to stand up to an outside enemy (whom they seem to practically love yet preach others to hate?).

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

And how has Syria defeated israel? Israel still owns the Golan heights and Syria can't even dare to shoot down jets that come and destroy hezbollah convoys or its own nuclear reactor. Itni mat chorra karro altaf bhaaaaiii ki tarhan! ;) :D

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

hafez al assad likes this post!

Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry

Who said Hezbollah defeated Israel?
And what does Altaf ullu ka .... has to do with Saudi Sehoonis? Looks like the truth about the nexus between Saudis and Sehoonis is making some people "lose their heads". ;)

Interesting that there was no such post defending Saudi Sehoonis in the thread about Saudis supporting massacre of innocent people in Egypt.
