Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry
Why would I come defend Saudis in that thread? leave it to janjua or bao bihari for that job like you have to defend MQM in Pakistan affairs! ;) You still haven't answered that if Hezbollah never defeated Israel and then you didn't refute the Israel taking over Golan heights or the regular Israeli fly overs in Syria, then how is that pathetic "resistance" better than anyone else?

Oh, so you are not here to defend Sehoon Saudis, but only to abuse "resistance" against Zionists?
Well, I think I agree with you in a sense. Even though Syria and Hezbollah offer resistance against Zionists but that resistance is inadequate and damaging to themselves. Because they are alone in this resistance. Instead of helping them, other Arabs are busy colluding with Sehoonis to end that "pathetic resistance".
Syrian war will be to total Sehooni advantage. Thanks to Saudis.
I think Islam's bigger enemy is not Israel but Saudi.
Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry
The problem is that we are completely dismissing the regular Syrians that protested against Assad as the arab spring traveled eastwards. He could've stepped down like Mubarak but no he had to fire on the protestors. He probably got counsel from his father's advisors just like Musharraf never thought that firing the chief justice, even if he had a valid point in sending the reference to SJC, would ignite a movement that would play to ppp and especially pml-n's advantage and reduce him from a rather popular benevolent dictator / ruler to a hated tin-pot dictator. Yes, we are our own worst enemies. People say it was Jordan against black September (perhaps it was) but I remember it for Syrian Hafez Assad when Israelis smirked that they hadn't killed that many arabs in whole wars compared to Hafez Assad killing thousands of people in Homs in 10 days in the eighties. People had high hopes, at least from the image crafted by bashar and asma, that a foreign educated ophthalmologist and an equally dashing western born? and educated economist wife would be a ray of hope for Syria but alas, Assad just miscalculated the Syrian street by trying to crush them. Saudia & Iran would rather fight their proxy wars in Syria and Afghanistan / Pakistan than risk going to war directly.
Re: Arab nations offered to pay for Syria strike: Kerry
Here is how I see things in Syria.
Bashar is a dictator. That is for sure. And he needs to go. It would have been better if it could have been done peacefully. But then he wouldn't be a dictator if he had given in peacefully.
The second best thing would have been to get as much concessions from him as possible. He was willing to give some. But when foreign aid started pouring in, the opposition thought that they can now bring down his government by force. They refused to listen. Instead they chose armed resistance. And Bashar, being a dictator, replied the same way. Result: The civil war and tragedy for common Syrians.
Things got from bad to worse when extremists started coming from all over the world. Except for other dictators in Gulf countries, this made others in the West extremely uneasy in providing weapons to rebels. This went greatly to Bashar's advantage.
The coming of extremists also made this an openly sectarian conflict. While Hezbollah was probably only covertly supporting Bashar until now (because its survival depends on Syria), the sectarian attacks and vows of massacre brought Hezbollah openly in conflict. Further damaging any advantage the rebels had.
So what is going to happen in future? I think one thing is for sure. As much as we hope for democracy, Bashar is going to stay, unfortunately. Civil war is going to continue due to foreign support to both the parties. And civilians will continue to suffer.
I heard that 1/3 of Syrian population is now refugee. That is extremely tragic.
