Apr 03: Bangladesh host Tri-Series

As South Africa ruled out Sharjah Cup and India tour to Pakistan, Bangladesh got the opportunity to conduct a tournament. Kewl!

Big changes have been made from South Africa and Bangladesh sides. Both teams have now new Captain. From Indian side, Dravid and Tendulkar are injured, therefore, new players will be given chance.

Anyway, I’m expectin’, India v South Africa Final, which can go either way! South Africa will have bowlin’ advantage over India. All matches will be play in the Decca Cricket Ground.

Bangladesh didnt get the tournament because South Africa didnt tour sharjah. It was planned irrespective of Sharjah.

Anyway.. good chance to see new guys.

Kallis has pulled out of the tournament.

So look at South Africa now…:hoonh:
he knew that they will loose to paki’s so they decided to go for the Bangladesh and India:rotfl:… whoa! so they are also playing some politics… anyway good luck to them:snooty:

Re: Re: Apr 03: Bangladesh host Tri-Series

Yeah, I know the tournament was planned immediately as South Africa threatened to pulled out from Sharjah Tournament due to security fears; and BCCI hold talks with South African Cricket authorities (Report)](http://www.dailystarnews.com/200303/11/n3031104.htm#BODY10) as they wanted resumption of Cricket between Pakistan and India but Indian Govt. didn’t permit it. As South Africa pulled out, tournament dates got fixed.

I don’t understand your argument how come it wouldn’t be call a tournament conduct by Bangladesh. Don’t BCB get financial benefits from this tournament?

Explain it, thanks.

Re: Re: Re: Apr 03: Bangladesh host Tri-Series

What I was telling is that this tournament was not organized in haste because South Africa pulled out of Sharjah as you suggested.Instead This tournament was planned years in advance and South Africa was supposed to play in Bagladesh after playing Sharjah tournament. Also they are playing 2 tests after the tournament.

So get your facts right before making these ignorant comments.

As I suggested? Have you looked at the Report as an evidence I posted? It's taken from Bangladeshi News-Paper. And I know, it wasn't 'cause SA pulled out of Sharjah Cup. I just don't understand how come you say Bangladesh didn't get the tournament 'cause they are one who are conductin' this Tri-Series.

Yeah, I know SA was supposed to play two test matches with Bangladesh in BD after Sharjah Cup tournament, not India. BCCI was quick enough to make a deal with SA officials. Simple. :)

You dont get it .Do you!!!!
I was commenting on your first post in this thread where you said that Bangladesh got the opportunity of holding this tri-series because SA pulled off from Sharjah. This is not true. This tour was planned irrespective of whethere SA goes to Sharjah or not. Here is some comment from the Bnagladeshi report you quoted.

"South Africa, who were knocked out in the first round of the World Cup, will travel to Dhaka after playing another tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, from April 1-10. "

Good that u realized. :)

Ahaa, our beloved Umpire Aleem Dar has been appointed by the ICC.

Good choices of Umpires and Match Referee, btw. KEWL! :k:

Aleem Dar to stand in Dhaka tri-nation

**Umpire Aleem Dar has been appointed by ICC to stand in the tri-nation one-day series to be played in Dhaka between April 11 and 20. The participating teams are India, South Africa and Bangladesh. **

Dar will be accompanied by New Zealand umpire Brent Bowden along with a local umpire.

The West Indies great, Clive Lloyd, has been appointed match referee for the competition.

Dar recently supervised some of the matches in the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa.

Bangladesh V India tomorrow. BD must be favourite to win. :)

Yuvraj and Shewag played good innings of 102 not out and 63. Without these two contributions the Indian total would have been very low. Not to forget Mongia who made another useful contribution. :D

The total of 276 is bit beyond BD.

After their inept performance at the WC Bangladesh hit the rock bottom, not that htye have been above it before. Further proof that they are the worst team around, even Agarkar took 3 BD wickets. :D.

Yeah, Bangladesh-India match result was already known. Same goes for South Africa-Bangladesh encounter.

Real game will be b/w India and South Africa. Both teams will try to boost their confidence, specially youngsters. I reckon Smith has got alot of load on his shoulders.

Let's see what happens in the Sunday's match. :)

Well played Yuvi,Sehwag,Zaheer,Salvi and Agarkar.

A brand new day](http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2003/APR/168866_TVS_12APR2003.html)

Disgraced and vilified after a disastrous World Cup, South Africa have plenty to prove when they kick off their TVS Cup campaign with a match against India. Graeme Smith makes his debut as captain, and Eric Simons, the coach, said all the right things about Smith on the eve of the match.

“Smith is one of those few cricketers who have the real feel for the game,” said Simons. “He is a tactical person and his leadership abilities have been tested for South Africa A and Western Province.”

At 22 years and 71 days, Smith will become the second-youngest captain in one-day international history, behind Waqar Younis, who was all of 21 years and 354 days when he led Pakistan against West Indies in Sharjah in 1993-94.

With the retirement of Jonty Rhodes, Allan Donald and Gary Kirsten, and the unavailability of Jacques Kallis, Smith has a largely inexperienced line-up to lead. Among the members in the current squad, only Shaun Pollock, Mark Boucher and Herschelle Gibbs have played more than 70 ODIs.

The South Africans got their first taste of bowling on the flat tracks of Dhaka, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Playing against an invitation side on Friday, South Africa amassed 294, but then watched their opening bowlers – Mahkaya Ntini and Charl Willoughby – hit all round the park as the home team slammed 71 from nine overs. They were eventually bowled out for 167, but Simons admitted that the South African bowlers were yet to learn the art of bowling on the batsman-friendly pitches.

“In South Africa you can sometimes get away with it, but not here. If you bowl wide here you get punished. I was very pleased with the match, especially from a bowling point of view because we learned a lot. It wasn’t nice to see us struggle, but perhaps it was good in the sense that we staged such a convincing comeback.”

The South Africans might have to pay a far heavier price if they continue to spray the new ball against India. Despite the absence of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, the Indian line-up of Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh is a formidable one. Simons echoed that view: “India can never be taken lightly, with or without Tendulkar.”

The Indian bowling attack was incisive too, albeit against hapless Bangladeshi batsmen who were all at sea even in home conditions. Avishkar Salvi made an impressive debut, but he will be tested far more against the likes of Smith, Gibbs and Boeta Dippenaar.

Sunday’s match should also – finally – result in Jacques Rudolph’s international debut. So impressive in the unofficial Test against India in 2001-02, Rudolph spent a more than year in the sidelines before finally breaking through to the national team. With so many spots in the middle order up for grabs, this is a golden opportunity for him to cement a place in the line-up.

Probable teams
India 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Sourav Ganguly (capt), 4 Mohammad Kaif, 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Dinesh Mongia, 7 Parthiv Patel (wk), 8 Ajit Agarkar, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10, Zaheer Khan, 11 Avishkar Salvi.

South Africa 1 Herschelle Gibbs, 2 Graeme Smith (capt), 3 Boeta Dippenaar, 4 Neil McKenzie, 5 Jacques Rudolph, 6 Andrew Hall, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Shaun Pollock, 9 Robin Peterson, 10, Alan Dawson, 11 Makhaya Ntini.
