If you (and I use the term “you” generically) meet someone you think is like-minded, sure chatting with them would be nice, but you should be motivated by wanting to have a pleasant conversation. Expecting more on the basis of an online friendship is complicated especially when people are located in all four corners of the world and you only get snippets of information about them - never the whole picture. Added to that, people tend to build up others in their mind and there is always the possibility of disappointment when the online persona and the image you create in your mind doesn’t match the reality.
So no harm in proceeding and pursuing, but do so with caution and consider the possibility of losing an anonymous online friend - is it worth it (and maybe it is).
Oh, and on the “let’s annoy a girl so I can tell her I like her” is soooo grade school. It’s like when the boys in class would yank on a girl’s pigtail to get her attention.
Agree If face-to-face relationships can be complicated…virtual ones…where you’ve never seen the person…can be even more so. Apart from the possibility of “building the individual up in your mind” and then being let down…trust is another huge issue with online relationships.
