So I am thinking about maybe applying to a Dentistry course in Pakistan as a foreign student (British). I have done GCSEs, A-Levels and am about to graduate from university in London.
What is the process of going about this application as the AMC website is unclear? Do I need to sit any entry tests and if so would I have to go to Pakistan to sit them?
Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
which school are u graduating from? Does it have an affiliated Grad-dentisity programme? as long as u get a 2.i and relevent work exp there is no reason u cant study it in the uk
also. if u are of pakistani origin etc, are you not classed as a pakistani national (provided that you get the documentation in order)
If u british why in the world wud u go to study dentistry in pakistan???
Because no one else will take them. They cant get into med school in the west so they go back to Pakistan and get into (pay into) some third class university.

I wasnt being rude or derogatory ... I was just being very honest.
There might be 1 or 2 people that want to move back to Pakistan but most people do it for the reason I stated. I stand by my explanation. If you have another explanation, feel free to let us know.

Cost is another issue. At least $100K to do dental school in US.

Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
most of the countries have their own system/exam for equivalence for a medical/bds degree and exams to let graduates enter into their system of postgraduation.if you think that foreign graduates can easily boast of their FOREIGN degree and will be openly welcomed here in pakistan for post grad, then you are sadly mistaken.there are exams here like USMLE/PLAB/AMC/MOH here in pakistan for equivalence as well which has its own criteria
Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
plus there is no 3rd class degree being sold out here at reputable medical universities either. it's really hard getting an admission into the colleges due to toughest competition. 'angoor khattay hain' ki kahani suni hai kabhi? :) that applies for anyone badmouthing system of exam or degree here since not everyone can get an admission easily!
Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
for the poster:if you are a pakistani national, you'll have to get an equivalence from the board of secondary education and apply for the entry test which will probably in august/september.that's the way to get an admission on open merit basis.plus you can apply simultaneously as a foreign student on the basis of your A levels.there are limited no. of seats for foreign grads.i am not sure if they have to take an entry test too.their fee:$10k+p.a.
Prototype: There are several universities that allow students to bypass regular admissions if they're willing to enroll using any number of self-finance schemes. They're not cheap but they do exist.
Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
i specified 'reputable' medical colleges and universities. the type of universities you are talking about exist everywhere-I know several people who couldnt get an admission here in pakistan and they went to universities in US,UK,China and paid for their admission and have done their graduation there-not to mention that they are not yet accepted here in pakistan since they couldnt passthe equivalence test and thus cannot work in recognised hospitals-they are just doing private practice at their own !
Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
FYI self finance seats are limited (approximately 5 in every recognised college) and they have a merit too. I know this girl who was a gold medalist in F Sc (956 marks) and she couldnot get an admission at any private of govt medical colleges last year as she did pass the entry test but couldnt score good marks in it. her parents tried at every possible medical college(even for BDS) on even self finance basis but she couldnt get upto the merit of them still (she is re-appearing for entry test this year)
"Reputable schools" are included in the list of schools that allow donations or self financing. And while there are merit requirements, the requirements are the bare minimum.
Admissions folk wont admit these special seats exist, but off the record, when dollars and pounds are put on the table, applications are magically approved.
Re: Applying to Dentistry in Pakistan as a foreign student
Just thought I'd update this thread and say I got into a university in the UK to study Dentistry and started my course a couple of weeks ago so someone did take me! :p
