So which new features are exciting for you?
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
Features Overview](OS - iOS 26 - Apple)
I personally am looking forward to passbook.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
I am looking forward to the new Maps app.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
Who is going to buy a $40 TomTom app after this. I use free mapquest app for GPS navigation and this Maps app seems 100 times better than that.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
This is pretty much going to kill the TomTom type business. Between Android's built in navigation and now the Apple Maps, I think the market in the western world is covered.
I am looking forward to the converging OS's that both Apple and Microsoft are shooting for. With Windows 8 looking like a tablet OS and Apple with Mac OS and IOS looking more and more alike, I think the days of regular computers are numbered for the masses.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
I am all for similarities between desktop OS and mobile OS, as it reflects the personality of the OS creators, but I still like them to see as 2 distinctly different. Mobile OS merged from the lack of proper visual real estate (screen size that is), and makes sense. Its not going to work on a 28 inch screen, where your input device is not your finger but mouse and keyboard.
I am really surprised at Microsoft who jumps into changing things in the name of innovation, without putting any thoughts behind the change. I predict that Windows 8 would be a disaster (that mosaic GUI would not work on a desktop). Did not Microsoft learn anything from Pocket PC/Windows Mobile? They should know that what works on a 24 inch screen, is not going to work on a 4 inch screen - and vice versa.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
There is nothing exciting or innovative about iOS6, Apple is just catching up with Android and other competition.
And for the Desktop - Mobile OS convergence, i liked the Ubuntu on Android kind of Idea, May be google will come with something similar for Jellybean or later version of Android. Where you have the mobile OS on your phone and will get a complete desktop kind of OS when connected to a monitor or dock. But the future will be of thin clients where all your data, apps and even the OS is running on the cloud.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
Passbook.
Looking forward to be able to check in flights with my phone, organize all my coupons and tickets right on my phone instead of carrying tons of chota chota papers in my wallet.

first of all, siri alone leaves everyone else in the dust. Then apple Maps is a great addition. Lets compare these 2 features first, then we will talk more :p
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
I am excited about Face time over cellular.
Maps is great and seriously the only navigation device that you would ever need. And Niki, passbook is an organizer dream come true. Love it!
Android ppl are just jealous :p
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
I believe that Android ICS still has more functionality then iOS6 will over. But it does not have Apple's* shashkay*

Siri :p its a gimmick, at the current iteration, no one is going to talk to there phone in a public place, its good for showing off. Yes, i admit that its the future in user interaction (machine learning), but currently its just a gimmick that Apples marketing machine created to sell iPhone 4S. And Android's voice action can do most of what Siri does, but it doesnt have fancy/girly name :p
Maps and Navigation, Google Maps on Android is doing this and more for the last 2 years :D
Show me an iPhone app that can do half of what AirDroid does :p
P.S: Am not an Apple hater, love their notebooks (i have a MBP, and loves it, i will recommend that to anyone as they are the best built laptops available in the market), but cant stand the tiny screen and closed system of iPhones.

I think that the regular Windows 7 type interface would be an option on the desktop / laptop versions of the new OS, while the metro version is more for phones (sort of Win 7 mobile) and tablets that run on non-intel chips. I didn't like the developer preview of WIndows 8, but have yet to test the downloaded RTM of Windows 8 that came this month.
I am surprised Microsoft is not offering a free upgrade to windows 8 if you buy a new pc now.
PS Is GPS on android accurate, because I had to download an app on my Captivate (ATT name for Galaxy S 1) to calibrate the GPS for 5-10 minutes unlike my ipod touch, where the gps usually works in a couple of minutes. Microsoft really could take the market away from android if windows 8 works out. I am disappointed by the broken nature of the android os compared to iOS.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
Yes, I think classic windows view is be an option available in Windows 8, and I know that if I am using windows 8 then I would be using it in classic view and not metro. I love Windows as its a very strong (and familiar) OS, but metro look is very childish.
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
Maps, definately!!!
Re: Apple announces IOS 6
I m using ios 6 on my iPhone 4S and it is sweet. Maps and Siri are working exactly as designed.

Metro is geared towards unifying the mobile and desktop interface. When people start getting used to Metro and then suddenly they are at a mobile store and see a Win8 Phone they'd be like, "oh yeah, that's what I use on my PC".
First they tried bringing the desktop interface to the mobile, which didn't work. Now they're doing it the other way around. Childish maybe a positive thing when bringing people in from other OS's.

The Maps are being supplied by TomTom.
