Re: Appeal Over Baby Named Jihad
My aunt's 12 year old kid is named Mohammad Osama. Recently they moved to the US and there was a bit of a concern when the kid joined a school. The principal of the school was obviously concerned but for the sake of the child himself, as he might become a victim of taunts etc. He is still called osama at home but his official first name is now just Mohammad.
I think its fair to be concerned. On one side we do have the right to argue that what another same-named person did shoudl not dictate how we treat than name. But then its also important to be logical and think about the kid too and the difficulties he/she will face growing up.
I find it very sad that the swastika is now an official sign of racism, when it has been in use by the hindu religion for centuries. Just because a racist nut decides to use that sign for himself should not make that sign itself racist.
Swastika is very much used in India but it doesn't have a black & white colour scheme adopted by Nazis.
