Other than shirk, are there any actions that would make a person an apostate from Islam?
Re: Apostasy
yes..its the ayat of quran...
have you not seen a man who made his Nafs his God....
nafs ki bandgi = shirk
*hawis
*lalch
*pride
*hub-e-jah
etc etc...
and in hadees..i think..show off that is riya kari= shirkai khafi...means hidden shirk
and Allah knows best
wasalam
Re: Apostasy
Denying any of the fundamentals of Islam.
Re: Apostasy
Not if you drink while considering it haram, but if you consider it to be halal, then that is kufar.
Re: Apostasy
What if you know its haram but you're an alcoholic?
Re: Apostasy

why one should drink if he consider it haram?
Re: Apostasy
Thats the case with most Muslims, they know its haram and not allowed, but they still drink, very few Muslims who drink and think its permissible to drink and its halal, now that is kufar.

Drinking is a major sin but it doesnt make you a kafir unless you think it is permissible to drink, or alcohol is not haram.

If he says this then as a matter of fact he is right. Is there any mention of 'alcohol' in quran ?

pidr-e-javed farmaa gaye thaY
Khud ko badaltaY naheeN, QuraaN ko badal detaY haiN
huaY kiss darjaa baY tofeeq faqeehaan-e-haram!
"alcohol being haram" vs "mention of alcohol"
two different issues sir..
"Kham'r" is haraam in quran and alcohol comes under kham'r... you and him are wrong! totally WRONG.
Re: Apostasy
Basically there is need of some education.
Alcohol is basically family of chemicals. it is widely used in the products.
What khanbabax and you people are trying to convey is right if you change the word 'alcohol' with wine/liquor ...
But if you insist with alcohol ( wide range of chemicals) then you are wrong at both ends.
The word used in quran is perfect as it covers all intoxicants, including samad bond ( the glue ) which is used as an adiction by street kids.
Saying that alcohol is haram is like saying fuel is haram. Both are very large groups and contains many different chemical. Most of them are not suitable for human consumption. One of them is methyle alcohol (it is most widly/ commercially used fuel and at the same time an alcohol) But you can not consume it as it is toxic and will cause death. So it will be nonsense calling it haram. Just as calling gassoline haram.

The word Khamr is anything which intoxicates even if it's fuel, laughing gas or charas...It obviously would include alcohol, so alcohol as is used in Quran refers to wine...
Now, how is wine made? It is made with grapes...
Are grapes Haram? Is the juice of grapes Haram? Is its vinegar Haram? No...It is the way in which grapes are used a certain way i.e. fermentation that makes them Haram...
So, Samad Bond is not Haram, gasoline is not Haram but if their indtended purpose is to use it to alter the state of mind then it falls under khamr and becomes Haram...
