Anyone suffering from IBS?

Is anyone from this forum suffering from Irratiable Bowl Syndrome - the IBS?

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

Mostar

Not personally but I do know that quite often, people diagnosed with IBS do actually have Coeliacs Disease and neither the patient nor doctor dont know it.

I cant tell you much about IBS but can tell you plenty about Coeliacs!

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

Well! It started after the 1999 Ramadan! I used to eat lot of pakroas and other oily and spicy stuff. On eid day and afterwards I had loose motions. First formed and then afterwards loose. I took pills that relieved for some time.

The I consulted a doctor who did colonscopy and found nothing wrong.

But I continue to have frequent attacks of the diease. I took hakeemi medicines a lot But that did not help.

Then I went to London in 2003 and lived there till end of 2005. I hardly had any attacks over there except only one time when I had eaten too spicy Indian food.

I came back to Karachi in 2005. And immediately arriving here I had frequent attacks. The triggers are - milk, spicy food, pakoras, sudden sad news and sadness.

Then I took isphagol and Guava. They helped a lot. ANd I was having formed feces. But again for the last two months, I am having frequent irritable bowls.

I regulary do swimming and yoga.

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

Salaams,
I suffered from ibs about 2 years ago, but Mashallah I managed to get rid off it and haven't had any problems since. I continue to eat all the foods that I once ate b4 ibs.:)
When I had ibs I couldn't really put a finger on the foods that did trigger it, Anyways i cured myself, I didn't take the medicine that the doc gave me as I didn't want to become dependent. I done plenty of research back then and found that carrots are really good, so the more you eat the better. I ate up to 5 carrots a day!! and 5 fruit and veg a day including dates and loads of water. u can eat what u normally eat but cut down on the dairy products, just for a while insha-allah this will help:)
An aunty brought back shafa dates back frm Hajj, I ate 1 day all praise to allah I believe that they have a big hand in me getting better.

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

I do get it from time to time. I really don't know what causes it but I have been like this all my life. when I was pregnant, I had it for like 2 and a halft months straight. It was miserable as I was going to the bathroom about 10 times a day and wasn't able to keep anything in. Then after like 2 and half months i got better on my own. Doctors did several tests and all were clear.

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

hmm similar happened to me wheN I was in Mexico...it went with me to canada and then New YOrk, for 10 days straight.. :(

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

^What u had was probably infectious diarrhea.

Regarding IBS, well i have had for as long as i remember. Few days of abdominal pain and diarrhea and then settles down and then again after couple of weeks. But i have never really bothered about it.

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

Also have the doctors check if you are allergic to Wheat Gluten!

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

Yes Carrots are good for controlling IBS. But I think only orange ones.
They are available here in Pakistan during April-Septmeber. The red carrots of Pakistan during Nov-Mar are not very helpful. Guava is really very helpful.

My feces examination always revel acidic PH.

Currently I am taking this Hamdard medicne - twice a day before meal with water. It really helps.

Re: Anyone suffering from IBS?

My sis suffers from IBS too - her main triggers are as follows:

when stress, nervous feeling, anxiety, confused/fear of something, pressure, sad news, even something very exciting can trigger it.

Food wise its triggered by: milk, coffee, pure orange juice, brown or wholemeal bread/pasta/rice, bran flakes, apples and highly spicy food.

Best thing is to eat slowly and chew food properly as ppl who rush their food or dont chew properly end up getting bloated and that in turn triggers the IBS further.

Water is great for IBS, but don't over-do it as too much can again make u feel bloated. Also, stick to normal temp or luke-warm water as cold water is not good for d digestive system anyway.

Hope that helps...
