Well if you’re doing what a lot of desis do which is pretend you’re a refugee when you’re really not…although I don’t know under what basis they claimed that. You see these scams with the Pakistani christian community where they get asylum under claims of persecution, but no one was ever persecuting them in Pakistan.

It was actually both. The lying was a huge red flag. If they could lie about something like that, what else could they be lying about?

Also, since they were in the States and I was in Canada, it became an immigration/sponsorship issue as well. If they were refugees, and not even green card holders, how did they think they were going to sponsor someone from Canada to come live in USA?

Don’t get me wrong, I get the lying is a red flag and it’s understandable if someone doesnt’ want to go through sponsorship/immigration issues. But was wondering if being a refugee is considered a bad thing.
