I have had this habit of putting in milk with any type of daal chawal (without chicken or meat of course, because that would be disgusting on a whole new level) and was wondering if anyone else does it. Like, you’re eating masar or daal chawal (again, no chicken or meat) and you pour milk and eat it like cereal?
I don’t do it because I can’t digest milk but its common in my family to add balai or milk in any sort of salan to make it less spicy for kids. All of my nano’s teeth are shed so she use some milk to soften her roti and then add salan in it and sort of make a thick concoction to eat. It taste great though.

I thought you were talking about adding milk to the daal when cooking.My mom adds a splash of milk to masar,so do I.it gives it a yummy creamy texture.But that is about it..!
