Re: Any Janjua's on Gupistan!!!!!!

Janjua's are Rajputs. They can be Hindu,Sikh or Muslim. Prior to being Rajputs, they were Jats. The Bains got found in hindu, sikh and muslim Jatts are said to be offshoots of Janjua's.

The Janjua.- The headquaters of the Janjua are the eastern Salt-range, but they are found in small numbers throughout the Multan and Derajat divisions, and in Hushyarpur. General Cunningham thinks that they are Aryans, and a branch of the Anuwan, Awan, or sons of Anu, and connects Janj the first syllable of their name, and Chach a tract in Rawalpindi, with the old kings of the Hund on the Indus who are said by Masaudi to have borne the name of Chach or Jaj. Sir Lepel Griffin is inclined to think that they are a branch of the Yadubansi Rajputs, now chiefly represented by the Bhatti, who held Kashmir till the Mahommedan conquest of the Punjab, and whose history has been briefly sketched under the head Bhatti and Abu Fazal also makes them a branch of the Yadu stock. They themselves say they are descendants of Raja Mal Rathor, who migrated about 980 A.D. either from Jodhpur or from Kanauj to the Jehlum and built Malot; and the Janjua genealogies show a striking uniformity in only giving from 18 to 23 generations since Raja Mal. One of his sons is said to have been called Jud, the old name of the Salt-range; and Mr. Brandreth states that only the descendants of his brother Wir are now known as Janjua. If this to be, and if the identification by General Cunningham of Babar's Jud with the Awan be accepted, the connection of the two tribes by traditional descent from a common ancestor follows. The Janjua once held almost whole of the Salt-range tract, but were gradually dispossessed by the Gakkhars in the north and by the Awans ( if they be a seperate people ) in the west; and they now hold only the central and eastern parts of the range as tribal territory, which is exactly what they held at the time of Babar's invasion. They still occupy a social position in the the tract which is second only to that of the Gakkhars, and are always addressed as Raja. They do not permit widow marriage. Mr Thomson too makes them Rathor Rajputs from Jodhpur, and says they are the only undoubtedly and admittedly Rajput tribe in Jhelum. He describes them as physically well-looking, with fine hands and feet; much given to military service, especially in the calvary; pure agriculturist, bad men of business, and withgreat pride of race.

my husband's side is rajput janjua, if that is of any help

Re: Any Janjua's on Gupistan!!!!!!

Salamz to all.

The Janjua are NOT JATTS at all and never have been. In fact no clan can become a Rajput from a Jatt, not one has been recorded as so. (I dont believe in the caste system, but this is a unanimous opinion amongst Rajput code knowledgeables).

The Janjua are descendants of Raja Mal Khan. He was not a Rathore, but a Pandav Raja from Raja Janamejaya's side (the great Grandson of Arjun of the Mahabharat, and warlord emperor of Hastinapur). Raja Mal converted to Islam in the late 12th century just before the armies of Muiz ul din (Ghori). The point of 980 is that is when the Hindu Shahi emperor Jai Pal Shah Janjua built Rajghar fort and later Mal Khan further developed it in the early 13th century.

His 2 eldest sons, Bhir and Jodh inherited his Kingdom after him, but his other son Raja Kala Khan gained the kingdom of Kahuta and his descendants are still there and serve the Pakistani army in high ranking positions. Amir Khan (boxer) and Sajid Mahmood (england cricket) are his descendants.

Raja Tanoli, Raja Jodh's younger brother conquered Hazara and his descendants held off and fought the Pathans for many centuries and dominated Hazara and the Princely state of Amb as their own.

Janjua Rajputs are amongst the most valiant and courageous Rajas of Punjab, infact, LH Griffin has quoted them as " No tribe is equal to them in military skill or courage".

There are 2 Sultans of the Janjua still, one on Kusuk Watli who held off Ranjit Singh for 6 months outside Kusuk fort, until he himself gave up for the need of water for his people who were dying of thirst and food in his fort (Ranjit Singh didnt beat him, the Sultan himself had to give up in the end for his people as a true ruler) his name was Sultan Fateh Muhammad Khan.

Khakha rajas of Kashmir are Janjuas by descent also and are quite powerful in their areas also.

Re: Any Janjua's on Gupistan!!!!!!

And please, I must inform you all that Bains are NOTHING to do with Janjua. No record of the Janjua having an offshoot as the Bains exists. This is a very false notion with no substance whatsoever. Many clans have tried to allign themselves with the Janjua, Gakhar, Minhas and even Bhattis, but doesnt necessarily mean they are.

Only Tanoli, Khakha, Ranial, Dhamial Rajas are of Janjuas.

Bains have Jatts and Rajputs I believe but they have no proof of Janjua ancestry regardless of what any 'theory speculating Jat' historians may think, lol.

Re: Any Janjua’s on Gupistan!!!

I know a few Sikh Janjuas. Infact, our village in Punjab is mostly Sikh Rajput with many Janjuas.

For more info; please post on www.jattworld.com for Janjua history.

Re: Any Janjua's on Gupistan!!!!!!

Really, how come he didn't come of his cushy fort and fight Ranjeet Singh (Pakistanis' greatest hero) out in the open...

Re: Any Janjua’s on Gupistan!!!

One of MQM thugs, who also happens to be the Minster of Port, despite being clearly built in a quintessential bihari mode is also a Ghauri…

Re: Any Janjua's on Gupistan!!!!!!

Read up your military warfare manuals my friend. They were heavily outnumbered. The odds were very much against the Sultan with an army outnumbering his many tens over. It was a military strategy to last out as long as, which ultimately went in favour of the persistent and eventual victor Maharaja.

But I think your question was a little less knowledge inquisitive and maybe a little sarcastic. (Dont know why, somehow got the idea with the words like ''How come'' and ''cushy fort'' *and *''fight Ranjeet Pakistan's hero out in the open''.....) So i'll disect it and explain point and point for you;

  1. * ''Cushy Fort''* = (Built by Sultan Alim Khan Janjua centuries before the fight) although beseiged, was never penetrated or beaten by any army let alone Ranjeet Singh. That was a feat in itself. Kept the inhabitants safe, and enemies out. So yes, it was very much 'cushy' in that respect.
  2. ''Pakistan's hero'' = Funny, most Sikhs call him their hero, but hey if your making him a Pakistani one then fair enough, he's buried in our country anyway.... (He was the last Punjabi ruler of Punjab. The last Punjabi emperor before him was Maharaja Tirlochanpal Shah 1013ad....a Janjua Maharaja) ] ''didnt fight Ranjeet Singh in the open''* = My dear, if it was same numbers on both side, then no Janjua in recorded history has ever sat back. The Sikhs outnumbered them way beyond the Sultans' numbers, so it wasn't a straightforward fair fight, but a hostile complete takeover. Ranjeet didnt want to fight him face to face, that wasn't his plan at all. But all things considered, the fort held off all attempts for many months beyond Ranjeet's wildest estimations, considering larger kingdoms fell ALOT quicker. So the question was a little naive to say the least. Ranjeet Singh was a brilliant military strategist though and patience won him over. Luck was certainly his friend. If your talking about facing people face to face fairly, then read the story of the last Nawab of Multan, the way he was killed.... It's a 'shame' that Ranjeet's army can neither forget or repent.
