Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

I want to know does anybody use high speed internet in Pakistan? Which company offer it, and how much it cost you?

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

Check this site, not sure if it is up to date, The List

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

first question woudl be, which city. All major cities, karachi lahore pindi islamabad have broadband commonly available.

prices are higher in smaller cities, where not enough clients are avaialble.

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

worldcall
cybernet
ptcl
brain
maxcom
habib rafiq

They are all good. Apart from worldcall, all are dsl services.

Prices...for 64k, its under 1000 a month.
for 256k, under 2000.
for 512k, around 6000
for 1mb, ptcl offers it for 5000

Service is not too bad.

Wateen telecom is coming up with wimax service shortly..that should be better than all

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

PTCL offer good Kbps/Rs, however do check the local tv cable guys, you can cut a good deal.

I am using cable internet from the neighbourhood tv cable guy and I am getting a constant speed for 256k and I am paying around 300 RS for it (ofcourse with a special reference) city = Karachi.

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

BroadBand sucks in Pakistan. You will get a line for between Rs. 1000 - 2000 for 256 KBS line & condition is that that line will be shared between 1-10 user. When you get the line, you are only only one on it for sometime giving you impression, you got a good deal but after sometime, they start adding users to your line (since those are shared between 1-10) and after few month, you have been ripped off...

The best option is the local cable, they may give better price & service... But all big companies like cybernet, medianer, ptcl etc ripps you off big time...

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

512Kbps for 6000!! sounds a bit too costly!
a 512 Kbps line in INR in India would be 600

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

The reason broadband is still expensive that no matter what government shouts about Internet facilities in PK, they just (around a month ago) updated their STM4 link to STM6 (going upto STM8 in coming times). Yes Pakistan is now connected to whole world with just STM6 (930 mbps) link via Dubai. The redundant link as far as I know is 256 mbps satellite link (they may have upgraded it). Pakistan lacks behind badly in asia, I haven't heard any other country having bandwidth under OC48 (2.5 gbps) but Pakistan in Asia. The cost of 256 kbps with 2GB cap is same as 8mbps unlimited in Europe.

Pakistani IT needs to develop & develop quickly.

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

And all above are shared services between 1-10 users. If you want dedicated 256, you may be endup paying > 1000 rupees/month...

I am paying $40 for 11mbs connection in USA which is totally dedicated to me. You can imagine that I am almost paying same amount as of shared 256 connection. If you see the difference then 256/10 (if all slots are filled) = 25 kbs. So in 11 mbs I can run 11000/25=425 users giving the same service that they are providing. I wish I would have same service in Pakistan then I would be running whole isp over it...

In between, while my stay in pakistan last month. I inquired from cybernet & media net who says they divide it upto 1-10 users. Currently they told me in my area that would be 3 users per line but time by time it may reach 10... PTCL told me that users can go upto 8/line...

This is not something expensive, this is loot maar...

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

Pakistani Govt. is making a statement every other day, that the country is ahead of everyone else... so why don't u believe.. don't look out for stats and facts they mean nothing... only thing that matter is statements by govt. minister... else u r not loyal...

On an Experience note... PTCL DSL is so good that every day you have to call them for like 2 hours.. because all the customer support lines r bz... and it will be lucky even if you manage to call after 2 hours.. and then they will tell you that this error can't even exisit.. or they have too few resources to send them over to you so you should wait for couple of days... i m still waiting for the last 15 days.. i m reaching to the point of releasing my anger on them...

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

so what;s the conclusion?

cable companies?

would anyone recommend the good high speed internet with cable companies in Karachi?

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

^ High Speed, Lol... There is none...

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

well Highspeed is .... Worldcall provides 1.5mb downstream for Rs.8000 per month (unlimited), if u wanna afford it. Around $150 (US) per month.

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

eeek that's expensive than what we pay here in the US for high speed that is $40/month!!

What are the other options? I wanna come to GS even after I have moved back!! :D

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

Where did you get this price from? Worldcall market their internet as go4b. Let me brief their prices for 1.0mb (they don’t offer 1.5mb in their tarrif)

  • 1mbs dedicated (only you are using) - Rs. 44,000 ($ 721) / month - Discount price Rs. 33,000 ($541) / month
  • 1mbs shared (Shred between 5 users) - Rs. 29,500 ($ 484) / month - Discount price Rs. 22,125 ($ 363) / month
  • 1mbs Day long dadicated (only work from 9am to 9 pm) - Rs. 35,200 ($ 577) / month - Discounted price Rs. 26,400 ($ 433) / month

One more thing, I have been through their service. Not only they are pricee but their service is pathetic. Their customer service has no connection with their technical service… Just beware, you will be ripped off even not getting what you are paying for…

I know there are highspeed internet in Pakistan. I said there is none for a reason that you won’t get a highspeed service for the user. Only coperate would be willing to pay around 33,000 for 1mbs line… you may find dsl providing 1mbs or 1.5 mbs connections for 8,000 rupees but thing is that’s not a dedicated lines. They are shared among 1-10 users. Meaning when all slots are filled then what you are getting is 1/1025kbs = 102 kbs for 8,000 rupees. Isn’t it facinating…

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

Well thats what I was quoted by one of their representative but for home use only. Of course I didn’t pay much attention to their offer since I was not interested, I took 128k service instead. God know he was quoting real price or just bull$hitting but thats what he said. 1.5mpb for 8000 discounted (Rs 10,000 regular price).

The page u printed is dedicated Commercial service not home service. They home 64K line is Rs.800 .. while the page u printed says Rs.4000.

Anyway, I dont care. Pakistan is a country where electricity is unreliable so whats the point having high speed anyway. In the middle of important internet activity… boom … u have no more electricity. Bang … Pakistan Zinda’abad.

BTW, check this one plz

Re: Any Broadband user in Pakistan!

Lol, you are soo true about the electricity... Well I won't argue with you more since you are really nice person & you had been here for help for sooo long time & you had helped me with many things as well... but just let you know the prices of home users in the link that you sahred are shared among 1-10 users i.e. one do pay only Rs. 650 for 64 mbs connection but it will be shared among 10... Believe me anyone would be better off with dialup then connection with worldcall...
