I am about to travel in the next week and I have some great anxiety. Just weird feelings. Having sleepless nights, nervousness etc. etc. I have tried praying and it helps alittle but then I am back to square one again..
Its a long trip to the middle east and so I am just getting a little nervous. Havent travelled so far away in the last several years.
Is there anything I can do to calm down ?? Why am I feeling this way ? Its making me sick to my stomach ! HEEEEELLLLPPPPPPPPP !!!
Diva take a book with you, set of head phones, a laptop anything or if all falls take same xanx. I know what you mean I had a 15 hr non stop flight ughh, it made me sick.
Diva4U...are u a nervous about flying or the overall trip?I usually get very anxious too about trips, and what i usually do is just make sure i get all my details sorted out like where i will be staying..how will i be getting around et etc.It usually distracts me enough not to go crazy thinking about it. Good Luck :)
You can buy these travelling pills from your local pharmacy. They basically just knock you out for a while. It works great on my mother who suffers from travel sickness, be it in a car, plane, train, anything and everything.
Or, you can take a good book, headphones, magazines. I remember reading somewhere that you have a toddler. I'm sure the baby will keep you occupied too. They show movies too on the plane. They tend to keep a lot of people occupied.
Will you be stopping over anywhere on route to the Middle East? Make sure to stretch your legs if you can and do some duty free shopping. :p
I agree with CM that planning out all the details can help calm you and make things seem more in control. Because I think part of the fear is the lack of control you may have during a flight. The feeling that anything could happen may be making you nervous. So try to distract yourself with a good book. Take some Gravol to calm your stomache and it may knock you out a bit. Bring some snacks and wear comfy clothes. Also as you are already doing, pray that you have an easy and safe flight.
Thanks saima...I think you basically said what I needed to hear. As you said it, my fear is more with the unknown. Not knowing what to expect...things that are out of my physical control.
It seems “reasoning” yourself to a calm is not working and it probably won’t. Sometimes, you just have to tough it out. Few years from now, it wouldn’t matter anyway and all you’ll remember are the happy memories from the trip.
There are few things you can do to make your flight a tad pleasent:
Keep yourself hydrated during flight, carry a bottle of water.
Avoid sweets during and before flight. Have a good high protein meal before flight and take some left over with you to the flight – airline food is horrible. Don’t drink either, alcohol will keep you up.
Workout before flight. Endorphins your body releases will help ease any anxiety and also help you sleep during flight.
Light reading is great for long flights. If you like crossword or puzzles, take them with you.
Chat with your neighbor.
Invent new strategies and tactics for invading an already occupied armrest – my favorite in-flight activity.
Thanks ppl. Reading all this stuff has really helped me get over some of my issues. i really appreciate your help. Keep me in your prayers.
P.S. xanx is not a good idea on long flights. You need to keep walking around and be alert, otherwise you can get blood clots. Also, travelling with a toddler and taking anxiety/depression/sleep pills ----ummm, not such a good idea !
