So after successful controversy over Chausa / Chaunsa, I came to know that there is a link between Anwar-Ratol mangoes (mangoes from Saraiki belt) and India.
Anyone knows the link?

here it is:
The most famous Pakistani mango is known as Anwar Ratol. Half of Pakistani mango nationalism is based on the claim that Indians haven’t tried the Anwar Ratol. What most Pakistanis don’t know is that the Anwar Ratol’s roots are in a village two hours from Delhi. The village is called Ratol and its first Ratol tree is just over a hundred years old. One of the mango growers had migrated from Ratol to Punjab many years before Partition and there he named it after his father, Anwar.
So you know the mango on the basis of which you claim your mango superiority? Even that is from India. Doesn’t that settle the India-Pakistan mango debate?
Re: Anwar-Ratol got a link with India!
Um. No. ![]()
So do they still grow Anwar Ratol in India and if so, how does the taste compare to the ones grown in Pak ?
The soil may make a difference in the taste.
There should be a Pakistan-India mango taste-off festival.
I will be glad to attend and judge. ![]()

Most famous Pakistani mangoes are SindhRi ![]()
KKF is right. read that in Uzma Gilani’s autobiography ‘Jo Hum pe Guzri’. Her ancestors belonged to Delhi and were employed in Bahawalpur State before partition. This Anwar Saheb (the person who introduced this variety and to whose name this variety of mangoes is dedicated) was Maamoo of Uzma Gilani’s chachi who looked after Uzma Gilani and her siblings after death of their father.
Re: Anwar-Ratol got a link with India!
Using this logic many of us also have an Indian connection. Many businessmen moved between the two countries when the division took place. That's another fact that the same people were living on both sides of the line in any case.

Its just not the connection, but the seeds of a fruit which are major link here. But then potato and tomatoes are also not of Indian origin. As far as potatoes are concerned, probably they didn't exist in our part of world 4-5 centuries ago
Re: Anwar-Ratol got a link with India!

History of the potato - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The potato was introduced in the Philippines during the late 16th century, and to Java and China during the 17th century. It was well established as a crop in India by the late 18th century and in Africa by the mid-20th century.
