Anti-Punjab strike hits Pakistan
Police guard Quetta during the strike
Quetta was one of the cities most heavily affected
Businesses have closed in a number of Pakistani cities following a strike called in protest against the influence of the Punjab in national life.
Riot police moved in to disperse protesters throwing stones in Peshawar in North-West Frontier Province.
Most mainstream ethnic nationalists..like to emphasise there is a difference between being anti Punjab and anti Punjabi..
the former is a campaign against the domination of one elite from one province over the others..and the latter is a racist campaign for whatever reasons..
Where are the damn gunships..bring them out and level bugti's fortress once and for all..and the trouble of Balochi thugs will go away..
The problem is that the Baluchi sardars like Akbar bugti are exploiting the emotions of their own people for the sake of guarding the feudal interests. Each time a new development project initiates in Baluchistan, the influence of their 'sardari' on the populace diminishes further. Hence, they have decided to act as pawns of 'foreign' interests, that are providing them with supplies to carryout terrorist and anti-state activities. The government needs to act tough, and act now..
It truly is sad when you see people chosing their personal interest over the nations. What exactly do they think they are going to achieve by these strikes?
Mushy came to the states and was answering questions by Pakistanis. One guy brought the question of Kaala Bagh Dam or some dam, and Musharraf scolded him for depriving poor Punjabis of “their” water.
The problem with Pakistan and its politics is not dissension and propaganda – which I think is the case behind these protests – but how it’s responded to. Federal govt. could flatten Bugti’s but it’d only feed fuel to the fires of other “interest” groups and give ammo. to their propaganda campaigns.
What Pakistan and PAKISTANIS needs is better dialog amongst each other and discussion of what’s behind these strikes.
Well, in order to deal with the crisis, we need someone like with an Arial Sharon mentality. You 'bulldoze' the biggest trouble maker; you take the wind out of their sails, and then negotiate. Under the current circumstances, negotiations would only lead to chaos down the road, since the problem will never be resolved - the thuggery of the Bugtis
pakistan is clearly looking like punjabistan... and since the punjabistan government sent in the army to kill their brothers/sisters what did you really expect?
surely you do not claim that killing minorities who have done everything for a country they get nothing much from is in the interest of the nation? unless offcoarse the nation is only for punjabis and pakhtuns and balochis don’t even matter
And yes dividing, rather splitting Pak into two would really solve the problem… Punjab and Sindh can go to India as folks in these two provinces have in the present and recent past given ample proof of their affinity and compatibility with the Indians. While Balochistan and Sarhad can either accede to Afghanistan or form their own indepedent state(s)…And Karachites if they can purge the menace of MQM and its thugs, they can stay with Balochistan…
