Obviously ppl have different ideas of what is decent or appropriate and what isn’t..
My mum finds this ‘indecent’ but I can’t see the big deal (not like you can usually see anything).. So is it?

Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
depends on what what your dressing gown looks like? ![]()
My mom thinks the same thing. She thinks pjs are for sleeping and not for hanging around the house in.
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
I am afraid, I have to side your mom.
While we (read women) have appropriate dress for almost every moment including, school, college, shopping, travelling, mehndi, valima, , wedding and what not, dressing gown is just not the dress for opening door for your own and guest's sake :)
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
as long as it's decent, it should be fine. if you have a night gown/house coat on top of your nightie, it should be fine :)
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
Before answering the door make sure the guys is blind in the eyes not a blind installer.
A woman was taking a bath when she heard her doorbell ring. "Who is it?" she said. "Blind man," was the answer. "I'll be right there," she said. Without putting clothes on, she went to the door. A surprised man said, "where do you want these venetian blinds?"
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
^ but jokes apart.. even if he is a real blind person, a woman is not allowed to go without parda..
proved from a hadith.. where Hazrat Fatima R.A asked Hazrat Mohammad S.A.W, Do i need to do parda even infront of a blind man and HE replied: "ofcourse! agar wo andha hay..to tum to nahin"
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
My mom has a problem w/ bath robes. One time I was on the hunt for a red bath robe and my cousins (guys) were there also and she started giving me the glare every time I mentioned it in front of them. I later found out she thinks of bath robes as lingerie and said I have to wait until I'm married to get one, lol. This was almost 7-8 years ago but still cracks me up.
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
Isn't the purpose of dressing gown is to go in front of other people in your pj's. I mean it covers most of your body right??? but I might be wrong.
My dad can greet any one in his bermudas and undershirt while my grand father needs a pressed shirt and combs his hair even opening door for the doodh wala lolz
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
completely indecent
imo a girl should not answer the door w/o her hair covered
same way a guy should not answer the door in his boxers

Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
It’s inappropriate as in, it denotes that you’re in your sleepwear at whatever time of the day. It would be ok if you’re opening the door later in the evening/early morning.
I walk around my pjs ALL day. I even open the door in my pj’s
. But that’s coz I am lazy and there’s nothing more comfortable than pjs. I really should think about changing into “home” clothes, like we had it growing up.
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
As long as you are decently covered, its ok to answer your door in your robe. Some robes cover more body area than some of the Saree/Blouse combos that I've seen
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
I tend to change into PJs as soon as I get home, so often answer the door as long as I put something over the top. Mum makes me change if we are having guests over though, or if they are unexpected I have to run and change ![]()
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
This thread gives me great bij-nis idea.
I am starting a line of dressing/night gowns with the label ‘DONG’ - (Door Opening night gowns and not my Chinese name
) - not to mix with eye opening night gown though ..
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
mm,.. not sure "dong" is a good name for women's clothes..

LOL agree. Good catch.
Re: Answering the door in your dressing gown..
^ just imagining a desi khatoon telling her friend. "Mery shohar ne kal raat naya DONG la ke diya mujhay, purana wala kisi kaam ka nahi reh gaya thaa"
