Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Air port security comes undr federal government n i hope so you understand the difference between state terrorism and terroist attack

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Did he order the culprit to fire on the plane?

Yes, it was a security lapse, something that has been acknowledged tons of times. Our intelligence and security organizations both lack heavily in intelligence info and armament. That was the main reason for both Karachi, and Peshawar incidents.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Yes he resigned just like Showbaz changed his name after finishing of the electricity crisis and Big Ganja took out Zardari on roads just like in his Josh-e-Khitabat

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

My family travelling to KHI on friday. May Allah take them safe and sound.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Wow. Say one thing and all the PTI supporters get their panties in a bunch.

Anyway back on subject. This is what the Afghan Taliban did in Afghanistan and what Al Qaeda has done in Syria and Iraq. You are pretty much going to see such tactics a lot more in in the next coming years.

More so since our airports are situated in densely populated areas of the country. So either we move the airports or we destroy homes around the airport by a kilometer all around and keep it clear.

Emirates, Etihad suspend Peshawar flight operations – The Express Tribune

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

any issues, just having discussion, no need to label anyone PTI, jiyalas etc etc

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

latest:

Emirates Airlines has suspended all operations to and from Peshawar. they say they can not compromise the safety of it's passengers and/or their crew.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

It was soo coming. I dont know which other international comes there but pretty much everyone would suspend it.

And Godforbid if this happens in any other city even remotely, we'll be all dependent upon limping PIA then

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

mostly middle eastern airlines serve Pakistan along with Malaysian and Sri Lankan airlines i suppose.

yes, you are absolutely correct, one more such attacks anywhere in Pakistan will force some of the above mentioned airlines to cease their operations in N out of Pakistan. that will be an economic disaster plus huge inconvenience to the traveling public.

the government should do something to save it's aviation industry. PIA can not serve all the travelers if foreign airlines cease their operations.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

That is true. We should not just be declaring that it is impossible to stop and just give in to their terror.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

I agree that intelligence-collection can avoid it, but given that this occurred in Pakistan where army headquarters are not safe, airports are not safe, the only intelligence that is used is against journalists or politicians :(

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Agreed. The army should continue its 'intelligence+offensive' in North Waziristan while govts (both provincial and fed) MUST continue tracking down extremists/terrorists in their domains. But for that both KPK and Punjab MUST abandon thoughts/support of extremists in their ranks.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

More bad news on way:
*Etihad follows suit *
Etihad Airways’ flight EY261 from Abu Dhabi to Peshawar, which was scheduled to depart on June 24 at 11pm local time, has also been cancelled, according to a statement released by the airline.
Affected passengers in Abu Dhabi and Peshawar have been re-booked to travel on alternative Etihad Airways services to and from Pakistan.
The airline’s next flight to Peshawar, scheduled to depart from Abu Dhabi on Thursday night, 26 June is still under review. The safety of Etihad Airways passengers and staff is of paramount importance and the airline will continue to monitor the situation closely.
All affected Etihad Airways’ passengers are being kept fully informed about the situation.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

There was a time in Pakistan when we were suffering from both sophisticated attacks on high profile buildings, as well as, massive civilian causalities in markets and mosques on daily basis. Touch wood and thank Almighty thousand times, that we have finally managed to control, if not totally eliminate, the latter. We are into second week of military operation, and so far, we have not seen any case of heavy handed retaliation from the Taliban, and it has been like this for past 2-3 months. This again links in with my previous point that it seems Pakistan army has managed to either pacify, defeat or totally eliminate many other violent fractions within the TTP.

However, the terrorism we're now left is of sophisticated nature. The terrorists are targeting high profile, technically secure buildings with proper weaponry, intelligence and planning. These are not merely trigger happy, point scoring, revenge attacks of circa 2005-2012, these are specifically designed attacks to destroy's Pakistan economy, push her into a some kind of economic isolation.

Loss of human life and economic loss on one side, I'm afraid these attacks may further deteriorate the relations between civilian government and the military. Frustration and blame game may push either side on the edge.

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

Some think that the gunmen wanted to injure/kill the pilot while some think that they were targeting the fuel tank of the plane:

Gunmen planned to blow up plane in Pakistan by hitting fuel tank

Re: Another tragic incident at Peshawar airport

i think the security agencies must secure international flights taking off from the airports because these planes are loaded with huge amounts of fuel and a bullet hitting the fuel tanks can be catastrophic.

during Iraq war, US was quite concerned that the terrorists might use big guns around airports to shoot down the low-flying planes taking off from the airports.

terrorists have access to bigger guns or rocket propelled heat seeking grenades that can cause huge loss of lives.

God forbid that ever happens anywhere in the world. aameen
