****PESHAWAR: A woman was killed and another person was reportedly injured when armed men fired at a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) airplane that was about to land at the Bacha Khan international airport in Peshawar on late Tuesday, Express News reported.
According to details, PIA flight, PK 756 coming from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was about to land at the Peshawar airport when the incident took place.
At the time of the incident around 178 passengers were were on board PIA plane.
Confirming the incident, airport officials said one passenger was killed while a steward was also injured in the incident.
A search operation has been initiated by the ASF and local police.
Both the injured have been shifted to the hospital
This is the third such incident at the Bacha khan airport.
On April 29, rockets were fired on Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA) that hit an army barrack on Khyber Road.
On February 26, two rockets landed inside Peshawar airport however no damage was reported.
Not a spark a useless debate here, I understand ASF is responsible for the security of airports, i'm assuming it reports federal govt not provincial, right
One more thing, had it been any international flight, it'd be suspended all over pakistan right away.. Absolutely nothing going right these days
This is a cowardly act; firing on a passenger plane as it approached the Peshawar airport for landing. What can be expected from terrorists who take pride in killing innocent women and children? Our hearts and prayers go out to the woman killed and her family. We also send good wishes for those injured in this, yet another, senseless attack. We stand united with Pakistan in these challenging times. We are sure their quest for peace will yield positive results.

Dude, learn to give gratitude. If not for U.S. forces, these Taliban would have taken over Pakistan and have already kicked your ass all the way to Arabian sea
It's truly very sad. May the deceased rest in Peace. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihee Raajioon.
It must have been a pretty powerful rifle considering the range. Wouldn't it require a sniper rifle, or was the shooting at random and passenger happened to get hit?
This is depressing and so infuriating at the same time. How did a person carrying a major weapon get so close to the airport? These sophisticated attacks on airports are quite worrying. They really need to investigate whether terrorists are getting any inside help from internal staff member. I really wouldn't rule out such possibility.
The weapon could be ex-Nato stock that fell off the trucks, so to speak. Which would make it possible for the attacker to have mounted on a rooftop as far as a mile away depending on the strength of the rifle. Reason for saying 1 mile reference is that some time ago there were articles on how a soldier was able to target Taliban from a mile away with his sniper.
Growing up, used to hear a joke about how the local Police Station knows what's cooking in every house because of the CID they kept. Local Police Stations ought to know the pulse of their areas.

This type of attack is almost impossible to prevent.
Airplanes coming to land at airports have long, low approaches. You don't need to be in the airport, just on the approach path to be able to shoot at it.
The weaponry needed for this type of attack is not sophisticated either. It is unlikely to be a Kalashnikov, because it doesn't have the range or accuracy needed. But instead any of the many-russian pattern light machine like a RPK-74 or a PK-series light machine gun (of which there are many thousands floating around after the Russian war in Afghanistan, and which is mechanically simple enough to be even be duplicated by home weapon smiths in the Frontier) have the range and velocity to do this. You just need tracers rounds in the ammo feed to see roughly how far away from the airplane the bullets are going and you can correct your fire onto it.
We know it was not a more sophisticated weapon such as a heavy machine gun because that would have completely devastated an airliner and cause massive casualties.
Something like this is almost impossible to avoid, unless you forcibly depopulate and bulldoze all the urban areas that lie under the approach path to the airport and turn it into a flat, controlled zone that nobody can enter. This would require tens or hundreds of thousands of people to be relocated.....
My main fear is that such as attack is so easy to carry out in any Pakistani city that you may well see it reoccurring!
Pani wich madani. Airports cant be secured not even in US of A. Anyone can stand near the fence and shoot at the plane. Good luck fighting the stupid war.
As maddy said, such incidents are almost impossible to secure unless runways and surrounding areas are completely vacated/turned into ground and sealed.

bhahahaha, the same Taliban have some people running away with their tails in between legs. Unfortunately 13 years of attempted control on the country could only result thousands of deaths (if not few millions), destruction of country, zero result.... unless you believe terrorism has been eliminated. But then that is separate discussion, I digress.
