LAHORE: The Election Tribunal of Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared another member of Pakistan Muslim League-N ineligible for having a fake degree.
This time the court disqualified MPA Rizwan Naurez, who was elected from PP-34 Sargodha, for having a fake degree.
Dr. Nadia Aziz had challenged the eligibility of Rizwan Naurez before the Election Tribunal of LHC, stating that the latter sent a proxy for appearing in BA examination 2002 but was caught. Consequently, Rizwan Naurez was barred from taking BA examination, but he managed to get a fake degree of BA in the same year and used it to contest the general elections of 2008.
The Election Tribunal comprising Justice Azmat Saeed of LHC termed the petitioner’s statement as correct after thorough examination of the relevant records and declaring Rizwan Naurez’s membership of Punjab Assembly as void.
The court directed the Election Commission to hold by elections in the PP-34 Sargodha in two months.

Do you remember 3 MPAs of PML Q were disqualified due to fake degree but they joined this club of criminals and got PML N tickets and two of them won and became MPA again but one Naghmana lost. **Former MPA of PML-N Shumaila Rana submitted an application to the Punjab Assembly speaker for her restoration as an assembly member on Monday.**
Rana in her application said that she resigned from the seat due to intense pressure in the credit card case but now that the court has acquitted her she should be restored as a member of the assembly.
Sources said that speaker cannot restore any MPA who had resigned. Only the court or the election commission has the power to do that.
Sources also revealed that Shumaila Rana did not mention the reason while resigning.
Earlier in July, 2009, the former MPA had been accused of using stolen credit cards for purchases worth Rs80,000. The case was filed by the owner of the credit cards, Zaira Malik, who claimed that Rana had stolen the two cards from her bag at a health club.
Rana was allegedly seen in a CCTV footage using the credit cards at a jewelry shop.

A bench comprising Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmed has also fixed today (Thursday) for submission of final arguments so that a verdict is announced in the case. The court summoned the MPA Wednesday but he did not appear. It then asked his lawyer Sardar Raziq about his client but he could not furnish a satisfactory reply. On this the court confiscated his right to record a statement in the case. Ex-MPA Ishtiaq Mirza through Sheikh Ilyas Advocate challenged the authenticity of educational qualifications of Raza. PML-N MNA Mudaassir Qayyum was disqualified by the Lahore High Court election tribunal.
**The Election Tribunal of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has disqualified PML-N MNA Mudassar Qayyum Nahra for holding a fake degree.
** The Lahore High Court gave this judgement on Monday.
Nahra was elected from NA-100 constituency of Gujranwala and the election commission has been ordered to hold elections in this constituency soon.
The disciplinary committee of the Punjab University had imposed a three-year ban on Nahra but he still got the degree from Bahawalpur university.
Not only did he obtain the degree without an NOC, he also used a fake address in all related documentation. Prior to Nahra’s disqualification, the LHC had given him a two-day deadline to resign, but he refused to comply.
In the recent past, many PML-N provincial and national assembly members have been disqualified for holding fake degrees.
The issue of parliamentarians holding fake degrees have become a national issue of grave importance as more and more parliamentarians are found to be in possession of bogus degrees.
Following the uproar in the media concerning the matter of fake degrees, the the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Educationhanded over 873 degreesof parliamentarians to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for verification on May 25. Ishtiaq Mirza filed a petition contending that Yasir’s Matric, FA and BA degrees are fake. However, during the last hearing the said degrees have been declared genuine, but the petitioner told the court once again that the FA degree is fake, adding that some other persons photo is pasted on his FA admission form. Federal Board controller exams told the court that the Board maintained record of only ten years. The court today concluding the hearing declared Yasir as ineligible having fake degree of BA.
