well my system is in very bad shape rite now. took me 3 hrs to make it work. problem is still there [now more programs are crashing]. anyhow, i’ve got XP CD and am trying to reinstall OS But the problem now is this that i’m getting an error XP setup cannot read/write to drive C. if anti-virus is running then pls wait for it to stop and then try again]. first i don’t have anti-virus installed anymore…2nd why it can’t read/write to drive C? 
can anyone help with this new problem now? 
i’m in no position to buy a new system.

Are you installing from within the windows? The best way would be to reboot off the cd and do a clean install

yeah from within windows. the problem is this XP CD i have is not bootable. :-/

Download and install that
Make a folder on ur Desktop, copy the files from XP CD into that folder.
Then open that program u just installed
It will ask you to select windows folder..that’s the folder u just created. click once on the folder to select.
Keep clicking next…it will ask u to select ALL NONE etc…
click ALL
Next..Next Next
then it’ll say MAKE IMAGE, click on the drop menu, select DIRECT BURN (assuming you have a cd/dvd burner)
and then click Burn (located towards the bottom)
Once it’s done..it’ll be bootable. U just reboot with the cd in drive
when ur pc starts…keep clicking F8 until a prompt window comes up…select ur CD/DVD drive as the boot device and voila!..ur on ur way…
I can upload screen shots of step by step instructions too..if u need!

thankyou for all the help guls and gulnars… 
UPDATE on my computer : i reinstalled XP last night. had many problems, crashes and glitches during the installation but finally it went through and system was up and running smoothly again. firefox crashed couple of times but no other major problems so far. so me think it was the OS. but i’ll wait and see for another few days before i start to think me te my computer are in safer waters. :halo:

me thinks its ur hard drive that's causing it. There shouldn't be crashes during install, and apps shouldn't start crashing on a fresh OS build that much. Do a chkdisk at the earliest convenience.
