Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
i can understand giving ball-park percentages like 50% 60% 80% for agreements.
WTF is an 8-9% agreement? What instrument do they use to measure agreements so precisely?

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
All indications are now that President Musharraf will announce some key policy changes soon
Most importantly there will be a declaration on the question of his uniform.
Expect some 'historic' decisions to be made by end of this week or much sooner...
**Seems He finally took my advice, Musharraf has decided no one in the **
Pak Armed Forces will wear any Uniform any more............................:D
History is definitely in the Un-dressing of Musharraf and all of the Pak armed Forces..........................:D
Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon
another constitutional finessing and tweaking, dropping of corruption charges and other such. the pm and president have already been decided w/o elections (which are going to be rigged anway). this is democracy? ![]()
Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon
This is called “aao democracy democracy khailayn”
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
fuedal as well as ethnic politics, why does mqm get support in urban sindh why does ppp get support in rural sindh why does pml get support in punjab
i mean they do get support in other provinces and areas as well, but the biggest vote bank is along ethnic lines.
while some subjectivity is always going to be there, a bias will always be there in any democracy, we can not excpect all people to soley vote on objective merits, to some a candidate or party's views about that ethnicity or province's issue would actuyally be an objective criteria in their assessment. but right now there is too much blind supprot based on personalities ethnicity etc.
That's the curse of democracy in South Asia. That is why our countries have wasted 60 years in this sort of divisive politics.
It is a fact that Pakistan has developed much better under military rule (Zia excluded). Facts are there as proof.
Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon
now your naivity (word?) is becoming more clearer, you don’t know jack about history of Pakistan… how much time Pakistan spent under military rule and how much time in venture of democracy? How much time in ‘aao democracy democracy khailayn’? How many of poitical parties were carved out by military? yeah, military is angel.
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
well bb may say he is taking his uniform of, but he hasn't said that
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
military is NOT an angel by any stretch of imagination. and niether are the politicians, so its a situaton akin to out of the frying pan into err a wok to a deep fryer to a baking tray to a grill to a rotisserie and back..
oh yeah..dinner time..brb
:)
Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon
Mashallah. God bless the Pakistani Army ![]()
Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon
Only if that justice muneer was present now and i can do a chitrol for his “doctrine of necessity” judgemnt against Nazimuddin. Military did start this problem as ayub got bhutto [his daughter one of the beghairat besharam] and zia put in the infamous “lion [jackal]” of punjab in politics in the eighties.
It makes me wonder how would have america turned out if the armed forces had taken over [took 11 years to make a constitution] and sideline all the early patriots..
Btw, what about this?
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
thats why i said in future. wait until ifti gives up courts and jumps into politics. the challenge for him is going to be to keep the momentum of his popularity going.
CJ doesnt retire till 2013 and our politics/civil society is way too unstable to keep Aitezaz's chips high for that long.
Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon
She also gave a deadline of 31st August for him to make a declaration on the uniform, but that has now been extended till 8th September. BB has publicy gone too far in pledging the PPP to a deal with the government that she really has no choice but to carry on, especially as she has practically burned her bridges with the rest of the opposition.

Musharraf and Benazir to meet in Abu Dhabi?
By Zulfiqar Ghuman
ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf may visit Abu Dhabi in the next few days for a final round of talks with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto, official sources told Daily Times on Friday.
“This will be a make or break meeting between the two leaders, which will take place after hectic consultations with respective parties and detailed parleys between Bhutto and Musharraf’s aides,” said sources close to these developments.
It is learnt that National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain was ‘under instructions’ to remain in Islamabad since he could be asked any time to assume responsibilities as acting president in the absence of Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro from Pakistan in case Gen Musharraf decides to leave for Abu Dhabi. Mr Soomro is currently in London.
The sources said that Gen Musharraf could leave for Abu Dhabi to meet Benazir Bhutto at short notice after getting a go ahead from his emissaries in London. “Both leaders have made up their minds about the extent to which they can accommodate each other’s demands and will be making last ditch efforts to secure a deal,” the sources said.
Benazir had earlier set August 31 as a cut-off date for Gen Musharraf to respond to her demands. She is under pressure from her party to announce her return after PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif decided to return on September 10.
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
Most probably, with the return of Nawaz Sharif, the vote bank of Benazir would become divided weakening her party and bargaining position and the Army would be able to play off both leaders against each other...

There is nothing called "burning bridges" in politics, esp in Pakistan, thaali ke baingan hayn sab, *"burning bridges", "coalition" *sab awam ko 'chay' bananay wali batayn hayn, "jab jahan jaisay kaam niklay nikalwao" sab ka na'ara hai.
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
Actually she is becoming desperate to return home and take control of her feudal fiefdom...She can do anything for that...
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
CNN.com says BB is returning to Pakistan even without a deal. Date will be announced "from soil of Pakistan" whatever that means.
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
She used be very good political negotiator , been involved in many power sharing deals since 1988 , this is not the first time she was dealing with army but I guess she was bit high on hopes this time . If she still goes with this deal , she might gona end up getting less then demanded by her or offered by Musharaff in start .
See this is what me granny used to say : if ya keep ya pot on fire longer then needed , khabee khabee hanndi jaal bi jahtheee hai !
P.s: i m bit inspired by Moin thesedays , so i have decided bringing me granny into every post to support me stupid theories !:)
Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon
I think BB has become bolder and bolder in the past few weeks. Imagine making such public statements pushing Musharaf into corners.....may be she has received covert assurances and backing from Condi/Bush. Which is also probably why the commando has basically been unable to say anything to shut her up. She is talking as if she is controlling the dialogue and Musharaf is sulking before being made to give in
