Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

All indications are now that President Musharraf will announce some key policy changes soon in pursuance of the deal/understanding with opposition parties.

Most importantly there will be a declaration on the question of his uniform.

Expect some ‘historic’ decisions to be made by end of this week or much sooner…

Historic eh? I am intrigued. What would be so "historic" about these decisions?

Looks more like 5 weeks.

**Bhutto ‘ultimatum to Musharraf’ **

**Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has given President Musharraf 48 hours to respond to her demands for a power-sharing deal, media reports say. **

The embattled military ruler is seeking support for presidential elections that would give him another five-year term.

But his options have narrowed after a series of Supreme Court decisions.

Ms Bhutto wants a clear statement the general will resign as army chief of staff before year end, some say before a presidential vote due in the autumn.

Uniform off

She also wants a pledge to remove legal obstacles currently preventing her from becoming prime minister.

Until now Gen Musharraf has said he will abide by the constitution when it comes to his dual role as president and army chief.

Some say this means he will take off his uniform by year’s end.

Analysts say she was alarmed by the Supreme Court’s decision last week allowing the exiled opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, to return to Pakistan, perhaps as early as next month.

Mr Sharif has gained much support for opposing army rule and vowing to force President Musharraf out of office.

Ms Bhutto on the other hand has been losing public support by negotiating with the general.

It is not clear whether the military leader can accept her demands.
At the moment he has enough votes in parliament to win another five-year term.

** But there are growing defections from the ruling party and crucially, the Supreme Court might rule that his re-election from existing assemblies is unconstitutional.**

All WARDEE HATERS report here

President has agreed to take off his uniform. We are VERY NEAR to agreement. BB told this during an interview to a British News Paper

If this is the case, then long march and TEHREEKEEN chalaney waley abhee garee ko dhakka hee lagatey reh gaeey …

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

Mushy to lose the army garb.

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

Musharraf's position as Commander-in-Chief will be strenghtened, and he will retain control of the military, hence his eventual retirement as COAS will be merely cosmetic. But for public consumption i.e. to stop her party breaking up BB can say she made Musharraf take off the uniform. All politics in the end. The power structures will remain pretty well much the same as they are now.

Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon

Man, I hope he stays C-in-C…I’m too confused abt this right now…wardi is too important…I hope theres some catch and he tells em all “yeah right…, I’m leaving COAS but getting a promotion too!”
Mush for FM! :jhanda:

It's becoming clear now that whatever title Musharraf holds along with his Presidency he will remain in control of the military - BB conceded that very publically some days ago. BB is making a lot of pronouncements to foreign media at the moment, which as I said is basically to soothe her party - it is in serious danger of rupturing . I just saw Aitzaz Ahsan being interviewed on Geo News, and he was in effect warning BB that he will not go along with any deal. Of course he made the usual noises about PPP unity, but it is clear this man can/will cause BB a lot of damage.

Re: Announcement of “Deal” and Uniform soon

Did Ayub take off his “uniform”? I still remember him as “field marshal” though I am perplexed as to what battlefield honor [aka victory] he achieved that he was awarded the “field marshal” :konfused:

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

KSE gains almost 200 points on reports of the deal, following a week when it plunged quite a bit.

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

Its all over the place.... I was listening to radio while coming back from lunch and it was on NPR in headlines ..... I guess we should expect the formal announcement in a day or two

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

BB interview on Kamran Khan ke sath Geo today.

Geo are also highlighting Aitzaz Ahsan's displeasure with the deal.

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

while Sheikh rasheed said in a telly prog that Uniform is no more an issue btw BB and Musharraf , you may hear some thing very soon . May be in 1st week of sept !

Re: Announcement of "Deal" and Uniform soon

people tend to forget that very serious negotiation took place between musharraf and ppp after the last election. apparently deal fell through because bb did not want anyone else but bb to be the pm. end result of her selfishness was that her party ended up being out of power which will put the party at huge disadvantage in the elections. essentially local bodies play a big role in ditermining the results of national elections and pml-q has a huge advantage because it has the highest number of nazims.
