Re: and another thread on delivery
wow such amazing and unique stories....specially when it is the first time, the experience is totally unexpected and undescribable and exciting...congtrazz those who are expecting :)
yes its my first baby. I also plan to take the epidural. Can anyone list things that are an absolute must for the baby in the first few weeks after delivery? I don't want to miss anything in my shopping.
Receiving blankets / swaddle me blankets, warm jacket or snow suit to bring baby home from hospital if you are giving birth in the winter esp in a country that expereinces cold winters, pls buy newborn size as the 0-3 months one will swim on baby besides of course a 0-3 month one too for later use. Stock up on diapers. Some peole don't use wipes for the first month and use cotton balls and water instead. We followed that route for our first born but not for teh second and all went well. Baby washes and lotion (again some people say not to sue lotions in teh fisrt month but baby's skin was way too dry, and I felt it was ok to use with the doctor's consent. When I knew I would be having a girl the second time around I bought a pretty frilly dress in cotton for pictures, and got a premie size which fit her fine at that time and even upto a month after even though she was 8 lbs and 5 ounces at birth. Of cousre a car seat and stroller (tarvel system) are a must. If you are in teh west, they will not let you leave the hospital without a car seat. Plus thermometer, mylicon gas drops (such a must), and a bath tub!
Re: and another thread on delivery
oooh, khawateen and shinoo! you girls are lucky you’re in europe! its going to be so expensive to get the Joolz shipped to toronto, although the Mamas and Papas version sells in Dubai, so maybe my parents could bring it for me. hrm… will have to settle the details when theres actually a baby on the way! hahaha
the only drawback to the Joolz is the weight limit for toddlers is pretty low compared to the others- most of them go up to 4 years or 40lbs… i think the Joolz only goes up to 32lbs. i have a feeling my baby will be giant- we were all around 8lbs 3oz, and the hubs and his siblings were in the 9/close to 10lb range (gah!! the horror!), so practically speaking, the baby might grow out of the Joolz really quickly. which sucks. because i have yet to see a more stylish stroller. also the basket on it is ridiculously tiny. and watching my aunts with their strollers, i can tell the basket is a prime selling point- the bigger, the better. how often do you ladies use the stroller baskets?
speaking of mamas and papas, did y’all know its really just peg perego in disguise? thats why they sell a lot of the same models… i am very excited to see the Skate Elite… its about 10 lbs lighter than the Skate and its got everything!
Maman et Bebe: Peg Perego Skate Elite
saadia, you should look into the bugaboo a bit more- what i found is, in terms of what you get, its features, etc., its been surpassed by all the other newer brands coming out, but definitely check out the Skate Elite too.
i also really like the i’coo targo and the uppababy vista. they’re both in the $600 range so much less than the bug, which sells for about $1000 here.
Maman et Bebe: I’Coo Targo

oh and this is also a super site for kid stuff- very unique things and very fun things- http://www.sparkability.net/
Re: and another thread on delivery
I find the Joolz looks funnnnny
Anyways, Im not really into strollers yet, but what I love looking into -gorgeous diaper bags! Gone are the days of tacky zebra stripes and whatnot, they have some seriously chic diaper bags out there!
Re: and another thread on delivery
SGC, thats like 700 bucks for a stroller alone! ![]()
midnighteyes, i am in love with Ju Ju Be bags. I have heard they are a good investment. Which ones do you like best?
Re: and another thread on delivery
yup, these strollers are all really pricey. but if it lasts until the kid is 4 and then passes down to the second one, then its worth it, no? plus, they’re pretty! haha
midnighteyes! gasp sacrilege! haha i’m a big Joolz fan…
http://www.my-joolz.com/
look at the custom fabrics it comes in!
so.. any ladies go thru vaginal delivery with no epidural or other method of pain relief??
i did... Twice
.. and now i dont even let him to come near to me... :D
Aw sorry babes!
Looks better when the seat is lying down, but Im just not feeling in when its in sit-up mode, too techy for me maybe ![]()

you know its true, they are $$ but they last. Others spend maybe $200 and then only use it for 1-2 years and then have to get another one when baby gets a bigger or when next one comes. So the money does pay itself off in (some of) the pricer ones
Re: and another thread on delivery
well that's the thing, i mean, a good car seat and a good stroller should last a while, and be comfortable to use too. i've seen my aunts struggling with their huge and bulky plastic strollers and i just don't think its worth it, when you can get a lighter one, thats more compact and is easier to lift in and out of the trunk, not to mention steer, and that can go through snowy sidewalks with ease. plus, its prettier and i can buy it in orange! haha
Re: and another thread on delivery
You can get those umbrella strollers for FREE at most baby stores with a $50 purchase. Strollers are ok for the first 18 months and then the littles should be encouraged to WALK. Not always possible I know but if you leave extra time and focus on encouraging it, its a very healthy thing for them.
Car seats are a different thing altogether - necessary to keep them safe. The best is a 5-point harness, the one that goes down their side and clips at the chest and at the crotch. I found these beautiful ones that are good for 25 to 100 pound children - lots of room to grow AND they are slim enough to fit 3 of them in my Jetta. Sunshine Kids. They were a bit expensive but I will not need to keep upgrading as they gain weight.
We use the sroller basket a lot!! Did I say a lot!! That’s why I hardly use the umbrella stroller (even though I did manage to get even that with a basket, but its smaller). These prestige strollers are beautiful and really are not meant to spoil the look with a bulging diaper bag under them. Since we lived in Detriot, Mi (wetaher quitre like Toronto), there was less opportunity to use the stroller (weather not warm enough most of the time). I spent a lot on baby related items but the stroller I got was Graco. It cost $110 with the car seat and its been 7 yeras and we are still using it. We used it for 2 kids, it flew to Pakistan, Europe and within the US and survived despite getting lost by the airlines twice. If you are a pack rat like I am and if you think you are going to use the stroller a lot, (family outings which require walking a lot in wwarmer climates), I do recommend you do purchase an additional less expensive practical stroller, one in which the weight limit is higher as well as having a bigger basket. The Joolz can be used for shrter trips around town. On another note, my daughter was 8 lbs 5 oz at birth but didn’t gain as fast so she’s 3 yeras old and not quite 30 lbs. Ditto for son.

and that is where the luck ends for me ... i HATE baby furniture here.. no color.. its like everything to do with teh baby is geared towards the parents.. everything is so sleek and sophisticated and not at all CHILD LIKE! irkh.. i hate the fact that black, red and cream are the best selling colors the danes have for everything.. irkh and double irkh!
ive been searching online and there are so many cute things in babies r us and other private online stores.. but it would cost way too much to have things shipped from the states or canada... sighz... i have to make do with what denmark has to offer.. or take a trip down to england ...
we have like 2 famous baby stores.. thats it.. rest are those antiquey ones that u have to sell ure kidneyfor, to be able to afford to buy a sock from... or something like walmart, where u can buy gay ass winnie the pooh crap or other disney blerkh
oh and can i just say, good luck delivering the big babies :D i have a 50/50 chance.. the baby could be petite like me.. or a boulder like my husband...
Re: and another thread on delivery
khawateen, lol at the shopping adventures and delivery comments! :)
But not to worry, my EASIEST delivery was my first, he was TINY so makes sense that he was easiest. I also had some kind of infection which caused a very quick birth, went from 5 cm to delivery in 15 min!!!
2nd one was big, almost 9 lb but the birth was still pretty easy even tho they gave me pitocin. He was born pretty quickly after they gave me that awful medicine. I did not have epesiotomy nor did I tear.
3rd one was PURE HELLLLLLL.....he was small, just over 7lb. They gave me pitocin and after a couple of hours of increasing dosage, I just thought ok KILL ME cause I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE. Finally, he came out and I just passed out from releif. Little bugger!
But you never can tell...I mean they always say that the first one is the toughest and I thought I had it MADE. Little did I know lol! But every second was very well worth it. Thats all that matters.
Re: and another thread on delivery
ok, khawateen, you and i need to switch locales! i love, love, love baby furniture that is contemporary and modern and clean lines and non fussy- the kind thats on Sparkability. i absolutely don’t like the super frilly, fussy, pastel colored, typical baby stuff- blargh. i just can’t do it- the nursery should be engaging and colorful, but there’s no need to slap zoo animals all over the place. ![]()
this is the kind of look i like Canadian Family - Parenting Guides, Tips & Resources
and if theres anything you want from toronto, let me know- i’d be happy to send it over to you!
eastern, thats a long-lasting stroller for $110!
this is a really cute site for kid’s stuff and things- http://www.ohdeedoh.com
That’s a lovely theme! I guess that everyone wants unique. If the Europeans are minimalist then they want cutesy pie North Americana nd vice versa. BTW did you see that round crib in that website of yours! I love round cribs, sigh!! No we don’t have one! But I spent tons on clothes(and other accessories) and still do. Even for my little boy not just his sister!! Have you started researching the Oiliy, Hanna Andreson and on a lesser note Gymoborees of the baby world?
that is actually what i like too.. no way do i like frilly crap or plain-ness.. i mean i like ikea for the only reason that they make furniture so clean and sleek.. but its a baby! how bout some other colors eh! i want lots of colors.. nothing sterile looking.. for our own room i liked it cuz its grown up.. sophisticated.. beige walls and chocolate brown furniture.. very crisp and very clean.. but i dont want that for the baby.. baby deserves colors and shapes .. not plain crap ![]()
u keep posting websites ok.. its good influence.. maybe i can do some DIY projects..
oh and i love the round cribs.. place it in teh centre of the room.. ooo…
i liked this for when i bring the baby home from the hospital: http://www.dansk-barntex.dk/shop/ImagePopup.asp?Title=BABYBAY++Babyseng+h%F8rfibermadras&Image=/images/2008/Børneværelset/BABYBAYBABYSENG-p.jpg&ProtectMessage=
Re: and another thread on delivery
khawateen, you can always use a shade of brown, whether espresso or lighter, as your primary base color and then bring in lots of other colors with fabrics and artwork too. at least that way your nursery will look like it belongs in the rest of your house in terms of the overall feel of it, but it’ll be colorful and personalized to your bébé. And red is a way fun color for kids! you could do espresso crib and change table etc., but maybe get a brightly colored chair to go in the room or a fun storage cabinet.
p.s: our bedroom is cappucino with espresso furniture too! haha we’re accessorizing at the moment with ivory, but a pale teal is in the works…
eastern, i agree, round cribs are lovely! the only drawback is they don’t convert into beds, like a lot of the rectangle ones do these days. i haven’t yet moved into hardcore baby research- to be honest i like looking at rooms, and i love comparing strollers. haha
have you guys seen the German carbon stroller?? its ridiculous! it costs 2300 euros, and each one is made to order and you can even engrave a personalized message into the frame. now that’s a show piece of a stroller, but nothing i would ever buy!
oh, and i love this site for clothing- http://www.punkbabyclothing.com/
Re: and another thread on delivery
Nice stroller! I used to love the Silver Cross pram! unpractical I know, but looked so good. I saw the punk baby site, isn't it hilarious!
Would love to see pics of the bedroom furniture. It sounds a bit like your wedding dress (tan with green accents = cappucino with pale teal.
