and another thread on delivery

cuz i have farigh dimagh to worry bout the end part.. hey.. blame all the friends firing off babies this month and the next.. so many by the end of this month!

so.. any ladies go thru vaginal delivery with no epidural or other method of pain relief??

Re: and another thread on delivery

Yes, I had my first without any epidural/etc.

Re: and another thread on delivery

peachness.. how did it go? im more interested in that :D

Re: and another thread on delivery

yes...my first one was no pain meds at all....there simply wasnt time. First, I was SO terrified that they'd push me to have an epidural, I stayed home till I couldnt take it anymore. THEN he was delivered very fast, 15 min after I arrived at the hospital.

For my 2nd and 3rd, I went earlier and had to have Pitocin (my contractions stopped as soon as they broke my water). That is NASTY stuff, causes INSANE contractions. So I asked for Nubain - a pain releif injection - but had only a half dose. The half that goes into the IV is what I let them give me. The other half they give you in a large gauge needle in the hip so I told them no thanks for that half. Both went well with just that. Although if I had to do it over, I would not let them break my water - I could FEEL that the contractions need something to push against and once the water was broken, there was so much less to push against and my contractions went away. Fool with mother nature and pay the price. Go natural and all will be fine.

Re: and another thread on delivery

i remember u telling bout ure first pregnancy.. it sounds so dreamy and nice... thats what another friend of mine did... she refused to go to the hospital even after her water broke... she just walked and walked and walked until she couldnt take it anymore.. an hour later her baby came... docs had no time to give her anything... she had opened up nicely and well.. it was a sail..
god i hate her :(

Well, I started labor on Friday, at work, and all my colleagues suspected I would deliver soon...there were still 3 weeks to my due date so I thought it's just false labor and all that fun stuff. Things got rough over the weekend and by Sunday, I was in helluva lot of discomfort. The only thing was that because I still had so many days left I dismissed my pain and discomfort and tried to work through it. Sunday night, it was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. So I called the doc on call and she asked me to come in. Now it was ramadan and I really wanted to wait until sehri time so hubby could eat, and then head off to the hospital. But by midnite I was dying. Finally hubby heard me on the phone with the nurse at 3 am and we rushed to the hospital. I was admitted at 4 am with full dilation. No time for anything. Baby was born at 6:27 am.

While it seemed horrible at that time, I'd say that my recovery was much faster and smoother.

The 2nd pregnancy, I was admitted at 4cm dilation. I decided to take an epidural after they broke my water and the contractions became rough. But the person administering my epidural delayed it and eventually it became quite a mess. Baby's heartbeat slowed during delivery, they had to put a mask on me and other silly contraptions, I worked harder and baby was born fine and healthy.

I'd say both deliveries had their pluses and negatives. The end result is so worth it.

Re: and another thread on delivery

ok.. so stay home, bear with the pain, and dont let anyone the hell near ure water!

got it!

:D

Re: and another thread on delivery

Yup thats a great plan Kwateen! Just be a bit careful with the "stay home" part....I delivered my first one only 15 minutes after my arrival at the hospital....and I had considered staying home to have a cup of coffee before I went!!! ONE CUPPA and we would have delivered on I-95 lol!!!!

Re: and another thread on delivery

I planned on going through both with absolutely no drugs, unfortunately in the first one they decided that I need pain relief even though I didnt need it cause the labor only lasted for 2.5 hours. So they injected pethidine into my body without first asking me about the allergies.

3 days after delivery the point where they injected it turned into an abcess, i had a temperature of 103 and that together with a new baby wasnt fun :(

My skin broke out into a horrible rash and I sat there for a week peeling it like you'd peel carrots, big lump of skin peeling off.

Had to go back to the hospital and have the abcess drained under a general anaesthetic and they put a drain inside to keep it draining out which remained hanging out of my body for a week. Not fun.

The second one even though the labor lasted 24 hours I refused to take any pain relief and the hospital didnt offer any cause they werent in the mood to be sued again :D

I am due in January and I am thinking of it now like its going to happen now and dying with worry.

my friend delivered on sunday. well she had contractions since thursday but when she went to hosp they said its not contractions, baby's head is pushing and she is feeling pain. but she started to continuously vomit on saturday night and got admitted to hospital and sunday 1pm they broke her water and induced pain as she wasnt getting contractions.

i went to see her at 2.30pm and she was only 3cm diluated and wasnt really in pain. she gave birth at 8pm.
when i went to see her again at 9pm, she was so fresh and happy and acting like nothing had happened. and i got so relaxed, thinkings it wont be that bad.

but yesterday she was scaring me. she told me that it was sooooooo pain ful and she asked doctors to give her gas, or pethidine and even epidural and she doesnt want natural birth. but they wouldnt.
well i had feelings, the way she was talking, that she wasnt doing bad thats why doctors ignored her requests for pain relieve.

my SIL had the most painful birth. she was full in labour with 2 min apart contractions at about 10am, doctors didnt gave her anything but injections to help her fall sleep (she thinks it was sleeping injections not pain relief) and she suffered till 8pm, thats when doctors decided to for emergency cesearn as she was only 3cm diulated and baby's head was moving up not down.
so she delivered at 9 and still suffers from back pain from epidural.

I dont know what to do/say about it. its sooooo scary. i told my husband i will die and this is what is coming to my head all the time.

Re: and another thread on delivery

I am due in 5 weeks and I am going crazy thinking about all this!!!

cutiepie let us know how you go and goodluck. is this your first child? hopefully things will go well.

Re: and another thread on delivery

Well its fun reading birth stories. Even though its 3 years ago, I still remember it as it was yesterday.

I had pains on starting thurday night and all day friday and friday night and by the next day saturday around evening/night I could not take it anymore, but the contractions were not regular and it was sooo not 3 minutes apart. Anyway at 8 pm we drive to the hospital there I was kind of smiling thinking oh my baby will be here soon and kind of relaxed, one midwife said to me at the hallway, if u are all laughing and smiling then I dont think its ‘time’ oh Gosh then I stopped showing my teeths.

They sent us back home and said come again when its 5 minutes apart and should be around 60 sec long. I think. The whole day yesterday and today I was diluated 1 cm only.

Next day sunday the same, I am in pain, it comes and goes but still not 5 min apart. I am getting tips from my mom and MIL in the phone, do this or that, doesnt help. At sunday its enough I say take me to the hospital asap. so sunday evening we go again, this time i am determined to stay and no I wasnt in smiling mood anymore, the ride to the hospital was great pain itself, if u gets the contractions, no where to hold on to, so its even more painful.

I get checked and am 2cm diluated. .. Mashallah  (thats a record of 1cm a day) but they keep me in a room thats pre-delivery labor room, thats where u stay if u are not ready to deliver yet, but the ward is near the dilvery room, I saw females come after me and go before me with baby in their hands, I am stuck, there is great pain but not enough they tell me. I stay there all sunday night all alone, hubby had just started a new job and he decided to go to work the next day monday, I am dissapointed but think oh well he will come if things get serious and we have telephone contact with eachother.

Monday no baby yet and still not getting any further, they tell me to wallk, I am walking up and down the stair and I refuse to eat, everything looks gross and I take many hot baths, that was one thing that relieved me. The day nurse is a witch, but the night one was nice. By the time its monday evening I am so stressed and in pain and hubby came to me, I start crying, then he said that no matter what happens he is not going to work till baby is here. I start vomiting and things gotten messed up, thats when a nice night doc, who rushes to my room to see me in this condition, decides to do something around 1am tueday I am given some medicine to induce labor and boy that was painful but a hour later I was taken to the delivery room and got epidural and that was the best thing that happened to me and the midwife is very nice and gentle with hubby sitting next to me, I dooze off and around 9 am tuesday they wake me up and say now its time to push, 2 pushes and she is here, so cute and so clean, not a single spot of blood on her, the midwife puts some essential oil on her and lay her on me and I smell her and it makes me feel all better and I come back to reality that I have just given birth, all I can see is her black hair and her delicate fingers and hands afterward they dont even wash her, just soak of towal and clean baby cloths. The best thing that happened to me and worth all the pain. :).

I hope I haven’t scared all to be momies. :halo:

Re: and another thread on delivery

They left you in labor for that many days??

Usually they break the waters to assist the labor or inject the gel

Re: and another thread on delivery

Yes they left me, the day nurse and the doc were both mean and *****y. Had it not been for that young foreigner night doc, irani I think I would have been sulking there forever as I got 1cm each day.

My mistake I was at their mercy, didnt knew what they normally do, they didnt break the water or gave me anything till that nice night doc decided to induce labor.

Re: and another thread on delivery

wow saadia… thats a long time to be in labour

adra: haw.. how can they give u a drug without asking u first! beghairat kahi ke…

oh.. i got a q… u can start to dilate before ure water breaks? i thought u only start to dilate once ure water has broken

nice stories girls… i know women were born to give birth.. we have what it takes… and the end result is just so lovely… i shall think of it as a root canal coupled with horrible period cramps… that should do it

haha... sounds like my friend who just wouldnt go to the hospital and kept walkin and walking.. probably would have reached china if she hadnt been pushed into the car by her husband.. hehe... one push and the baby was out in a mere 15 mins after getting to the hospital :D

I am hoping i have enough stamina in the end to do this. I am sooo terrified of being induced, almost everyone who has told me their story of induction has ended up in a C section. And pitocin is no fun either, i am told it brings on horrid, uncontrollable contractions :(

Re: and another thread on delivery

kwateen, your water doesnt have to break in order to progress thru labor. It usually does at some point during labor, its like squeezing a water balloon - eventually its gonna pop kwim? Some docs like to break the water in the hope that it will speed things along but for me, it had the opposite effect - my contractions stopped.

Dont worry too much Ira. Its never more pain than you can bear. Thats the way God made us :)
