ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

ANAA stands for the Asian American Network Against Abuse (of Human Rights). The Association has brought forth the tribulations of Mukhtaran Mai and Shazia Khalid and Aisha Parween. The President Amna Buttar had organized a peaceful rally in Pakistan against the suspension of Iftikhar Chaudhry and reported she was sexually harrassed.

ln the words of Amna:

"I am in Pakistan now, and was at supreme court protest.
I was going inside the gate with the crowd when several police men wearing anti terrorist squad tshirts started grabbing me and starting touching my butt and other private areas. I realized that I was being pushed into a group of men whose purpose was to inappropriately touch me and I turned around and started to walk out of the gate and then this one guy pushed me down and got on top of me started to really go after me and touch my pubic area and I was in a sajda position kneeled with him on top of me. I was finally able to wiggle out from under him, and that is how I got scraped on my left knee and ankle. I have a six inch laceration non my left knee, and a two inch one on my ankle. My left arm is entirely bruised, and I have bruises on my neck and back.

I am sure that I was marked for this terrorization.

Amna"

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

^ so this is the lady complaining??

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

yes and your point is?

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

They were showing this on GEO ... not that this woman was assaulted but some clips of what went down that day. The crowd was wild, climbing over the gates, pushing and shoving, eventually breaking through the police lines. It was very far from a peaceful protest.

Anyway, what happened to her is not acceptable. Hopefully they will catch the officers, but I doubt it if she didn't see who assaulted her.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

It was HER?

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

Is that picture of her, before or after the sexual harrassment?

Not that it matters, she wasn't a free-for-all touching object. I really hope no one condone's the behavior of the men, saying it's her fault. Like really.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

Guess its before

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

Looking at this pic - lagta hay - woman in question - kuch zeeda hee jazbati ho gaee the “during protest”.

(what a gulabi English / Urdu I have written - please ignore it).

My point is - if u just listen to what police is saying - they have no reason to touch you - may be she resisted - tried not to listen to police etc. God knows that the circumstances were. She is only telling one side of the story - what does the other side say?

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

amna buttar is a publicity hungry megalomaniac, so I would take any of her accounts with a grain of salt. If something did hapen though, then it is deplorable and the people need to be apprehended and pimp slapped all day.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

That is why Im a big believer in women staying at home; let the gents worry about rallys and the whole deal;

At home only ur husband can touch ur private areas; at rallies ur only inviting the uneducated janwars to feel u up.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

so i take it you are not a big believer in uneducated janwars staying at home.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

I feel its easier to control our own ladies than to control the movements of the jahils.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

but which one is the right thing to do?

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

Unfortunately in our homeland the 'right' thing to do is not always the most practical thing to do; what is practical is having a 'ghar ka admi' (male) with the girl when she goes out or for her to stay at home.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

so if the right thing to do is not easy to do then one should not do it?

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

^ I don't know about easy or not easy or any other ethical issues; all i'm saying is to survive you have to be practical and smart.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

sure, practical and smart, no argument with that, although our definitions of practical and smart may vary.

Re: ANAA President Amna buttar Attacked by Police

Here is the news report:

Her brother is a sitting judge and there is a conflict of interest here. I don’t see her protest and ‘cause’ as credible.

An independent group needs to verify her claim that she was ‘manhandled’ before people should start jumping up and down and doing mirchi dance.
