Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
maybe if their governments (indian, bangledeshi, paki) supported its citizens, things would be much diff... a lot of hala baloo is made over citizens of the US, UK, Canada etc.. no one dares to touch them cuz they know these ppl will be well protected by their embassies... poor pakis, indians, bengalies, sri lankans.. hell we get mistreated in our own home countries... :D
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
The students can interact with them in english but they dont and same kind of attitude is with other students from other countries like malaysia and indonesia
Obviously those countries which are more powerful, developed and wealthy than saudi arabia like US and european country would obviously get royal treatment.
pakistanis can always treat a bengali or an afghan badly but obviously pakistanis cant react the same way with americans or europeans.Saudis sheikhs who come here for hunting(shikar) are even facilitated by the governement but surely an arab from palestine studying in a pakistani university wont get this kind of treatment.
We cant generalise a particular community.A muslim who follows islam and teachings of rasoolallah will not descriminate and will keep in his/her mind the last sermon of holy prophet.
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
saudis need to get out of their 'superior class' complex....
some of them do take that non-saudis (surprisingly not just south asians, even other arabs and gulf nationals) to be something inferior to them....
but then again it is a big country with a huge population and u just cant generalize things over the whole country....
last month i went to saudi arabia, got lost in dammam, and asked directions from a saudi guy who was just coming out of a store carring the morning paper and bread, and after seeign that i am not able to understand the way out of the maze (the straight road was blocked due to repairworks), he insisted that he'd drive before me and lead me to the highway which i was looking for....
there r good ppl out there too, dont just put them all under one umbrella....
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
i've lived in saudi all my life..........have been associated with saudi's more than indians or pakistani's...............have attended their marriage parties & dinners..............& .....i mostly find them to very generous & hospitable...........
& yes i've seen then treat indian & paki workers badly sometimes.......but why don u ppl see the good ones here...........
& nooo they don treat womes badly like u ppl say......
wht is ur idea of womens being treated badly....having to wear abaya's or something........like "Oprah" depicted us.....
being in saudia we feel quite protected........even after a few attacks here.....
it still feel secure.......

& yes this has happened quite a few times with us tooo........like when we'd gone to jeddah....& even when we'd gone to hasa & saihat.......
so u see the mass population is'nt bad
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
our attitude towards foreigners is not that good either.Arabs studying in pakistan face a tough time here.Students dont interact they have to find some one from their country or who shares their language.Even the public transport and the rickshaw walas charge them more.
Some time back in Daily Dawn there was a letter to the editor about the mistreatment of foreigners in islamabad especially those who come from african countries
Mal-treatment of Arabs studying in Pakistan??? Where did you get that idea man? When I was in the university, we had a bunch of Arab students (Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians and some Sudanese) and everyone used to offer to help them out just because they were foreigners. I, personally, know two of those who stayed back in Pakistan and they do not want to go back.
The exra-charging from public transport is a separate issue. They will even charge you more if they realise that you are coming to Pakistan after a long time. It is not about discrimination, but about the exploitation of the lack of someone's knowledge.
Mistreatment of people of African countries, I think is an issue. There are a few reasons for that. One being many Africans come here to smuggle drugs out of the country and police have specific orders against foreigners indulging in criminal activities. However, all are not same.
I have worked in many Middle Eastern countries. While I maintain as well that all people are not the same, there are plenty of Arabs (especially in KSA and Kuwait) who look down upon people from the Sub-continent, just because they are poor. According to them, we are sucking their blood now. They don't realise that without this cheap labour from the Sub-Continent, they would never have been able to make these impressive cities. You tend to understand the situation if you go Westwards to Algerias and Morocos where the people of SC did not go.
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
I actually have a different view of arabs than most people here. They are, and I say this with no pride, the greatest people on earth. More times than not, they are the most tolerant, open minded, and generally well read people I happen to come across. You also have to realize, without arabs, we would be all be idol worshipping hindus. I feel so lucky that they came and civilized us. Imagine life like a hindu lol.:D (shudders)
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
I 100% agree with that. We need to develop our own identity and not become chamcha of Arabs just cuz they are muslims or are rich. It is a fact that they treat ppl from the sub-continent roughly. Even the educated engineers/doctors from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh/Sri Lanka are not spared. For us, they dont like our face cuz poverty is written on it. They are still living in the 60s or 70s when the sub-continent was massively poor and hungry. Saddam Hussein would routinely ridicule whenever there would be a drought/earthquake/flood in the region and look at what happened to them. Dont worry folks, these Arabs are not going to remain rich for long. The oil is drying. In like 50 to 70 years they will have sand to eat and camels to live under. They come to Punjab and pay a few thousand dollars and buy marry for 60th or 70th time a girl who is 40 years younger to them. I knew an instance where there was this middle-aged arab lived in Pak for 3 years and during his stay he had taken huge loan from like 7-8 guys and had made a Punjabi aunty pregnant.
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
I've heard this from family friends too, Arabs/Iranians and others from that area look down on people from the Subcontinent.
I've had two bad experiences with Arabs after finding out I'm Pakistani, I just say I'm an Afghan now because they don't get looked down upon as much, I think it's deeper than juat money because South Asians and in Pakistanis in particular are treated and thought of very badly amongst Arabs and Persians, even the wealthy and educated Pakistanis are looked down upon (like when a "low labouring caste" person comes to England and his son becomes a doctor our elders will still say he's a such and such a caste.
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
Afghans! If you are an Afghan, they won't even issue you a visa these days. They stopped issuing visae to Pakistanis a few years back because a lot of Afghanis were using Pakistani passport to go to ME countries.
Persians: I have worked in Iran for sometime and found the Iranians to be pretty respectful of Pakistanis. Never had a problem with any Iranian apart from an infrequent question about Shias in Pakistan.
Re: An Arab asks:Why Is There So Much Hate Inside Us?
I've never been to the Middle East myself, my comments were based on what I see here in the UK.
Iranians, Persians in particular but also Balochi ones look down on Pakistanis. I find Arabs, Afghans, Persians, Kurds etc. stick together the way Pakistanis, Indians and Bengalis usually stick together.
