In your opinion, if a wedding is elegant and nice with all the ‘frills’ but there are only 100-140 guests, does it look awkward and/or weird? How many guests were at your wedding?

Of course it doesn't look weird! I prefer intimate weddings much more. We had about 70-75 guests at our nikkah...as compared to just over 1000 at our wedding and I MUCH preferred the intimacy of my nikkah than my wedding.

My niece just got married in June and there were only 125 people at the wedding, and it was an extremely elegant and intimate wedding. My eldest sister is getting married also the week after Eid and we have only invited around 125 there as well. And keep in mind that my immediate family alone is about 50 people lol...factor in 30 Baraati and you can see it literally is just a few close friends! It's not weird at all. We desis need to get out of this trap of excess where we feel like every chachi, ki phuppi ki bahu ki nand ki devrani has to be invited.

Thanks for all the replies; makes me feel a bit better. Our baraath will have approx. 250-300 ppl but valima will be 100-140 so we're looking to do the valima a bit nicer than baraath.

My cousins wedding had 700 people. I think they invited entire freakin Long Island and Queens. Not a fan of this. Too many mouths to feed, too many weirdos, and too many kids breaking the plates or whatever

No need to invite too many people. We had around 150 people in my brother's wedding. I'm planning to invite even less for mine.

aH it went well! I want to write one up, but like remaining anonymous here so I don't know how to go about doing that lol. I'll do a writeup at some point as soon as things settle down! There were a few hiccups but everything went well thank GOD!

I think 200 is the maximum good amount. I've attended way too many weddings in my life with as many as 700 people and I barely had time to say hello to the bride and groom. It's much better to invite only people you care about and perhaps invest the extra money into food, decor, photography and entertainment so that they would remember the day for a while.
I recently attended 100-people 1 day wedding it was was GRAND. We were treated like VIP guests and food was some of the best I ever had. This is why I declined going to 2 weddings this year - they were large and buffet style. I no longer like those lol. If I am going to give bride and groom $200-300 as a gift, I want to make sure I am getting my money worth :)
