Americans, British, Italians and Japanese taken hostage in Iraq! (merged)

Three Japanese have been taken hostage by Iraqi rebels who have threatened to kill them if Tokyo does not withdraw its troops from the country

Video of the captured three – two men and a woman – were shown on the the Arab satellite television station Al-Jazeera.

Two were said be be journalists, the third an aid worker.

Seven South Koreans have also been captured by Iraqi rebels, a Foreign Ministry official said in Seoul today. An eighth captive was released.

Al Jazeera aired a video showing three Japanese, including one woman, dressed in civilian clothes.

A video message purportedly from the kidnappers showed three Japanese passports.

One of three Japanese passports belonged to a woman. The video also showed three ID cards, one of them a press card issued in Jordan.

A message from the insurgents, who called themselves The Mujahadeen Brigades, threatened to kill the three unless Japanese forces withdraw from the country in three days.

Japan’s Foreign Ministry set up an emergency operations room but a spokesman said he had no information.

Iraqis Threaten to Kill Japanese Hostages

Poor Japanese troops feel kind of sorry for them they quite humble people unlike the arrogant GI Joes, but now they paying the price for joining the American crusade in Iraq.

Err - it doesn't sayi anything in that story about Japanese troops being held hostage - it says 2 journalists and an aid worker are being held.

Yet another erroneous thread title to mislead and blanket, stereotype insults against a people.

oops misread the title :)

But anyway not a good sign of things happening in iraq

things getting out of control day by day!

^Sterotype insults are you feeling ok i think you better take that medication again because you seeing things!

"oops misread the title"

Sounds like you didn't even read the article!

Never mind the fact that these people are journalists and an NGO, the demand is that either the Japanese turn tail and run, or these people will be burned alive. Nice folk....

Now, If Iraqi's hold NGO's hostage, how do they ever expect that the UN, or any country will participate in the rebuilding of Iraq? Japan is also one of the biggest potential funders of a future Iraqi government, as well as the second largest funder of the UN, despite not having a seat on the security council. The Iraqi's are massively stupid....

Mashallah, these brave islamic freedom fighters are now threating to burn alive aid workers and journalists, who are usually the greatest supporters of freedom fighters. They are trying very hard to make sure every non muslim hates muslims.

USA is behaving like a gangster who is losing its fear among the people and its trying desperately to get that awe back and in the process so many innocents are getting killed be it local iraqis or young american soldiers or these innocent hostages ?
how many more people are going to die ?
the world is getting dngerous every second every minute and where is all going to end up?

Who's kidnapping aid workers?

This is a thread about gangsters threatening to burn alive aid workers who left their comfortable homes to help the hapless. How about criticizing this abhorent behavior instead of turning it into yet another America bashing thread? There are numerous other threads available to continue the America bashing. The gangsters are these "Mujahadeen".

sad but true

Iraqi Rebels threaten to burn Aid Workers alive.

Like Saddam these slugs will be soundly crushed, they are no better. Does any here want to defend those who dance on the dead with their children and threaten to burn Aid Workers?

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Seven South Koreans, three Japanese and a Briton were reported Thursday to have been seized in Iraq and militants threatened to burn the Japanese alive unless their country withdrew its troops.

Gunmen frequently stage hold-ups on Iraq’s lawless roads but the taking of hostages would mark a sharp escalation of the growing conflict between U.S.-led forces and Iraqis and foreign militants opposed to the occupation.

No demands were issued in relation to the South Koreans, who were members of a church group, or the Briton, identified as a contractor. The Japanese were reported to be a female aid worker, a researcher and a freelance cameraman.

Arab television Al Jazeera showed the three Japanese, kneeling with their eyes bound with white cloth and surrounded by masked men holding rifles and also sitting on the floor without their bindings and talking to their captors. The walls of the room were riddled with bullets.

It said they had been taken hostage by a hitherto unknown Iraqi group called Saraya al-Mujahideen (Mujahideen Brigades).

“We tell you that three of your children have fallen prisoner in our hands and we give you two options – withdraw your forces from our country and go home or we will burn them alive and feed them to the fighters,” the group said.

“You have three days from the date of this tape’s airing,” it said in a statement, accusing Japan of betraying Iraqis by supporting the U.S.-led occupation.

A Japanese government spokesman demanded their immediate release and said the country had no plans to pull out of Iraq.

Nudged by the United States, Tokyo has sent 550 troops to Samawa on a non-combat mission to help rebuild Iraq in its riskiest military deployment since World War II which critics say violates Japan’s pacifist constitution.

Another U.S.-ally, South Korea has 600 military engineers and medics in Iraq and plans to send 3,000 more for reconstruction.

Disgusting…How for the love of god can they expect any support for their cause when they go around terrorizing the very people that can project their supposedly muffled voice.

terrorists..they are..plain and simple.

Islamic terrorists hate ALL kafirs. Their stated goal is kill them. Only way to defeat them is to kill them first. Does the US still use napalm?

What's more, any country that caves to this type of terrorism has to be out of it's mind. Ruthless weasles threatening to burn alive people who are trying to rebuild a country is absolute moral bankrupcy.

Perhaps after 30 years of Saddam, these demons believe that horror is the only way to initiate change. They have lived in a country where 99% percent of the vote went to Saddam, so the whole concept of Democratic and political change is foreign and alien.

I'll bet 'ya a nickle that no Muslim country, nor any Muslim leader will denounce this act. We will hear lame rationalizations, blather about "root causes", and keyboard jihadis applauding the act.

Then everyone will wonder why no country will volunteer troops, funds or aid to Iraq, even under a UN umbrella. Brilliant.

I don't think anything that stoops to the level of these terrorists should be done by the US. That is the difference between us and them.

Christian missionaries shouldn't be there in the first place. They're not liked here when they knock on our doors and tell us how they hate homosexuals, and they are not like in Iraq either. If white colonialists took over Pakistan, I'd kill every white man in sight.

No one here knows how the Iraqis are truly feeling, so no can judge them.

Bet more than a nickel and we will see :)
I have not seen the leaders of burkina faso and lesotho denounce this act. is it because they support it or is it because that is not their problem, or is it because we just dont know what they said.

a few points to ponder. forget leaders, I as a muslim do not feel a responsibility that everytime some two bit jackass who happens to share my faith does something idiotic that I go denounce him.

Fraudiya you are in a minority..a sane one.

Burkhina fasonians and Lesothians have not claimed some illogical brotherhood towards Iraq or palestine. Their silence is understandable.

Fraudz, no doubt individuals will be horrified. But Al-Jazeera runs this story, and the headline mentions nothing about incineration, it is buried in the story.

No leader of a Muslim country will respond to this, issue a statement in support of the Japanese and the Koreans, or provide any type of denouncement at all.

I am highly sensitized to blanket statements about religions. But this "army" has not only cloaked it's actions in Islam, they have drawn their name from among the most holy! The "Mahdi Army" to describe themselves? And then the reaction IS NOT to watch how the Muslim world reacts?
