This is an ofshoot of my other thread where one guppie said that “Pakistani girls don’t speak English”

Now having grown up in ISB, I know that is false. But how about accents? Hearing a thick desi (or brit for that matter) accent is like someone stabbing my ear with a hot fork.

Any chance I can find a girl in ISB with an american/clean accent?

You’ll get plenty of girls in Islamabad with more than impressive american accents, statistically Pakistan has like one of the best accents in Asia, look it up, you won’t be disappointed.

Sbc911 amigo, could you post a voiceclip in the voice gallery reading let's say the first few pages of davinci code, that may help people understand the clean accent and help you point to places where you can find someone with a similar accent.

Alternatively, you can forget ISB and find a girl in US, she would have an American accent, but may then have similar concerns about colleagues chuckling.

u know what thats not a bad idea. If i do end up marrying an abcd here, i would purposely embrass her by putting on the most paindoo desi accent in a public gathering. LOL, it will be epic!

I have this Indian girl in my class. Wow, I hate her accent. It is so fake and pretentious. She seems like a nice person but the accent totally takes away the legitimacy.

The same can be said about Pakistani girls.

Oh and I also hate the Americanisation of everything. It should be based on British English, pfft.

I had to train a bunch of west coast sales people who had never met me a few years back. Just for kicks I told their directors who knew me not to say anything and started my presentation in a very Apu like accent, went on for two minutes about what the training would include etc. and then switched over and said, well at least you will not have to sit through this for the next few hours to roaring laughs.

^I've read that your environment influences your accent. If a Pakistani has grown up in the US....or in my case I went to American school in the middle east...my English has an American accent. I guess it's what you've been exposed to for a long time. That said, I don't think that every Pakistani puts on a fake American accent. Some might...but not everyone.

Now what I DON'T understand is how come some desis living abroad have an American accent in their Urdu? That will sometimes annoy me more than English spoken in a thick fobby accent. I've seen cases where the parents speak Urdu properly....they speak in Urud to their kids.....kids have heard it for years, but somehow it's not picked up from that long-term exposure to listening to their parents. Even simple words "acha" has an American twang to it? But yet when I hear Hispanic people (the younger generation)....I don't hear the twang in their Spanish.
