I am not saying you should trust or distrust America, with your army or anything else for that matter. You have to be your own country and the army has to be your own. But know the difference in motives for American action - it is not to grab Pakistan and control it but to ensure terrorism does not have a base there. If the government agencies such as ISI had not had such close and conflicted relationships with the terrorists, there will be no attempt to influence them by Americans.
As to the dollar cheques and DVDs - how did your friend know they were taleban? and there have been public cases of al qaeda training foreigners and paying them / funding them with dollars. Al Qaeda had to fund foreign terror operations with dollars - example the woring of dollars to Mhd Atta
