Nice to see Americans humiliated in such a fashion. haha. Their president personally went there, and yet America was kicked out in the first round.

Chicago not only lost its attempt to land the 2016 Olympics,** it was absolutely humiliated.** Going in as a front-runner, the Windy City got blown out on the first vote, before Madrid or even Tokyo, whose bid was so bland it was easy to forget the city was in the running. That left the way open for Rio de Janeiro and the first South American Olympics in history.
Four years ago in Singapore, it was New York City’s turn to be humiliated by the IOC.
Now Chicago gets to scratch its head, wonder what happened after receiving just 18 of 94 votes in the first round.
Seventy-six out of 94 members voted against Chicago, against Oprah and the Obamas. That’s a landslide. America has now nominated two of its finest cities in a four-year span, only to have them both rejected out of hand. We get it.
Other day we were discussing the very same topic in the class that how Obama went all the way to IOC to influence the decision. I can’t comment if its good or bad, but democracy does show it’s power :k:
American would certainly be "humiliated" had the IOC decided to host olympics in Qum, Makkah, or Madina.
Anyone who cares to notice that Rio is the one of the best "party towns" in the World. beaches, the beauty pageants, the mardi gras carnivals, and over all care free fun aspects of Rio isn't lost on any world traveler.
Just see this video and realize the "selling point" of Rio.

I am glad Olympics are not in the USA - these things are two big, cost too much and mean a lot less now with all the pro atheletes looking more like machines than human. Obama was nuts to campaign for it in the 1st place

I have never been to Rio. Is Brazil everything they show us in the videos?Does the atmosphere they create in the videos actually exist?
Yeap. In fact video is a "toned down" version.
Rio is poor, but care free and fun.
The thing boils down to the people and their religion.
And Brazilian practice "passion for fun" with gusto. Even though they follow catholicism, and the video shows the big statue of Jesus (pbuh), the people don't use their catholicism to hurt and kill other people.
In some ways Brazilians have adopted carefree attitude of the native Indians and mixed it well with a European sense of self worth. And the result is pretty darned good.
If you want to define Brazil in few words they would be "Beautiful people with fun attitude".
