I got AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core... I just love it I am running VMWare on Windows XP 64 with 32 bit XP and Fedora Core 5 64 bit all running at the same time concurrently with little or no degradadtion...
Will never go back to anything less then Dual Core and 64 Bits..
My old PC got a hit during thunder storms and died so I went out shopping for one after extensive research I setteled for AMD Dual Core instead of Intel Dual Core.
One of the main reason was that In case of AMD both cores can talk to each other without leaving the CPU or getting on the bus. In case of Intel if Core1 want to talk to Core2 it has to go through the data bus there is no internal bus that link core1 and core2. apple for an apple AMD wins hands down.
You should also google for some independent bench mark results.

Good.. u must be flying with ur Athlon dual core and ya u took a right decision Athlon performance is far better than Intel specially for graphics purpose, if you have reasearced on Athlon 64 FX-60 or FX-62 compare to your Athlon 64 dual core processor then do let me know which one is better specially for graphics purpose coz im looking to buy FX-60 or 62 coz i think these r the best top end processors for graphics purpose which are available in market now a days. :biggthumb Let me also know about ur motherboard model and the Graphics card which you are using...

Right NOW is the worst time to buy a processsor.
Hate to be a partypooper but the Intel Conroe (Core 2 Duo) PROMISES to deliver (official release third quarter July 2006) better performance for 1/3rd the price.. Initial benchmarks from engineering and media samples have it beating an overclocked FX-60 .. It remains to be seen however if Intel can fabricate enough to meet demand and keep prices stable.
Even if you don’t want to buy an Intel Processor, the release of Conroe would prove that the FX series is insanely priced and AMD would have to cut prices.. u can buy them then.

Hollow, just buy the cpu if you can get it for a good price. There will be newer and faster cpu s every three months. So how long are you going to wait? :D

actually in this case.. he only needs to wait a month.. and this is not about something latest and greatest on the horizon.. this is about a tested processor about to be released for a much cheaper price than he's going to spend right now.. so waiting for Conroe, even if he still buys the FX is a wise move.

look at the FX pricing as of today and look at Conroe's target prices.. Intel hasn't even released the specs for the top of the line and their second best CPU already kicks top of AMD's line ass for 1/3rd the price!

WTLM... it's an annoucement.. no dates of delivery etc.. and by the time they do it.. Intel's quad processors will be rolling out.. and having two dual core vs one with four cores is essentially the same, the edge even going out to the cores which don't have to leave the CPU to communicate with the other cores..
anywho.. the whole idea of Conroe being 'superior' comes from the fact that a $300 Conroe edges out the $1200 FX-62 in benchies.. ALL of them! Now if AMD decides to reduce prices by that amount and bring it's flagship to under $400 we'd have an argument..
