Am I a confused Christian?

Ok so i am Christian as some of you might know. I think the question is really to someone who shares same belief as me. I don’t believe Jesus to be any deity. But i do believe he was messenger of God. He being god doesn’t make sense to me. I know our belief considers Jesus to be son of God. But i am really having hard time and struggling to understand this. Can someone shed some more light into this matter?. P.S. I am not religious person so please don’t kill me. I am just curious.

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

PQ: According to Islam, Prophet Jesus(AS) is son of Mary(AS), with no father involvment of his birth and consider Mary as pious woman on earth.

Our text and references also tell us that Prophet Jesus (AS) will come back as the follower of Prophet Muhammad(saw) but not as the messenger as he used to his first arrival.

We muslim believe that Jesus will going to destroy Dajjal(anti christ) with the help of Mehdi(a religious person who lead muslim ummah in comming future).

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

I know what Muslims believe STA. Which is interesting because bible refers Jesus to be God. And how can God be a human?. I also believe Jesus's second coming too!. Now as per my question am I a confused Christian???

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

I think it depends on which sect in Christianity you were born into, I myself was born into Christianity, but I don't belive that Jesus is God.

What I am confused about is if he is the Son of God or not?! I am also confused about hell - coz the sect I was born into does not believe in hell - what they say is that if you are a bad person you just never get into paradise, that is it.

So I guess I am a confused person too when it comes to religion. I believe in Allah but I don't like all these different religions and different sects - and every single one of them has a different view and it jst confuses me like nothing else!!!!!

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

lol. Yes! only because i don’t pay attention to religion much. Iman kamzor hai tu but i am looking for right answers from my religion.

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

Sadly mostly we have to rely on believe. Only some things make more sense then other thing.

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

You are right Monk. sigh

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

PakiQueen, why can he not be God? He is perhaps the only one who has gone up to heavens and will literally come back. Do you not think thats pretty impressive? He can't just be a human being right? He was someone much more than that, with Godly powers and possibly God ? ( to this statement, i do expect some criticism from my Muslim fellows, but its ok )

Unless Muslims can prove Jesus (as) to be dead, christians view in regards to Jesus(as) is superior than Muslims and this alone argument that he is in heavens bodily and is alive , whereas Muhammad PBUH died is in itself is an argument that orthodox Muslims will have no answer to, since they are also the believers of Jesus (as) being in heavens alive bodily since last 2012 years.

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

:hinna:

Yup :frowning:

Exactly…and this where my confusion goes out of control!!!

Then I start asking questions about Islam, and end up getting into an argument with my hubby coz some things dnt make sense to me..

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

I beg to differ. Islam is not only according to science but also according to our human nature. It is a universal religion and a complete code of life for a reason. I can't say for other religion, but everything in Islam make perfect sense. Just believing something is not enough, to understand why one believe what they believe and whether it make sense is what matters.

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

do you understand Urdu, PQ?

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

One question for you. Did Jesus in Bible (old/new testament) ever called himself son of God? Instead he always referred to himself as son of man or son of David.

References as follows:

The term Son of man has been used in relation to Jesus on more than 80 occasions. AID TO BIBLE UNDERSTANDING. JEHOVAH WITNESS.And Jesus said unto him, the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath no where to lay his head. MATTHEW 8.20
Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men. MATTHEW 17.22
The son of man indeed goeth as it is written of him; but woe unto the man by whom the Son of man is betrayed. MARK 14.21
The hour is at hand, and the son of man is betrayed into the hands of the sinner. MATTHEW 26.45
The son of man is delivered into the hands of men and they shall kill him. MARK 9.31
For there is One God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. I TIMOTHY 2.5
The Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory. MATTHEW 19.28
The Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father. MATTHEW 16.27
Ye men of Israel, hear these words, Jesus of Nazareth. a man approved of God among you. ACTS 2:22
Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the son of man standing on the right hand of God. ACTS 7:56

As far as "son of God" phrase is concerned, Jesus is not the only person in bible who is referred to as "Son of God".

References as follows:

THE RIGHTEOUS:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. ROMANS 8.14The spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. ROMANS 8.16
Love your enemy, bless them that curse thee, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven. MATTHEW 5.44/45
CHRIST'S DISCIPLES:
And because ye are sons of God, God hath sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts crying, Abba, Father. GALATIANS 4.6
CHRIST'S FOLLOWERS:
But as many as received him, to them he gave the power to become the sons of God. JOHN 1.12
For you are the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ GALATIANS 3.25.
BELIEVERS:
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. I JOHN 5.1
PEACEMAKERS:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the sons of God. MATTHEW 5.9

Besides, Jesus himself denied of being Son of God:

References as follows:

And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said; nevertheless, I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. MATTHEW 26.63/64And the devils also came out of many, crying out and saying; Thou art Christ, the Son of God. And he, rebuking them, suffered them not to speak, for they knew that he was Christ. LUKE 4.41

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

^You have taken reference from Jehovah's Witnesses on the top part - I was born into this sect of Christianity (though I am not one), So I was learning about christianity till I was about 16yrs old from them - and I was taught that Jesus is the Son of God!

I have never read the bible completely - I think I read part of the old testament, but it was when I was tooooo young!

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

Well pakiqueen, your belief about Jesus (pbuh) as stated in your original post deviates from the stances of Catholic Church, Coptic, Greek and Russian Orthodox Churches, and the Protestant Churches.

However, you aren't the only Christian to have started thinking this way. 500 years ago in Poland the movement that became the Unitarian Churches began (eventually they were deported out of Poland for refusing to convert back to Catholicism and ended up in Hungary, Holland, the UK and North America).

Unitarian Christians reject the idea of the Trinity, instead holding that God is one and is the entity identified as The Father. They still believe that Jesus (pbuh) is his son, but do not believe that this made him divine.

In rejecting the Trinity, Unitarians do not ascribe partners to God (in common with the Islamic perspective), but they still believe Jesus (pbuh) to be his son (something which still sets their theology very far apart from Islam).

Personally, (and to be open I am Muslim), I find the Christian concept of Jesus (pbuh) being God's son, even within the Unitarian concept of him being a non-divine son, to be quite perplexing . What need would God have for a son, divine or otherwise? What would make one of God's creations a son rather than a creation that He loved?

The schools I went to from age 7 onwards had mandatory religious education classes that focused almost entirely on Christianity and as such in my childhood I actually had much more formal education in Christianity and Christian theology than I did in Islam. But the perplexing nature of Church teaching on Jesus (pbuh) compared to the clear and (to my perspective) logical presentation of his nature in Islamic texts always left me feeling that Islam's teachings made more sense.

Re: Am I a confused Christian?

if you doubt, its not faith.
