Re: Alternate words (check your vocabulary)

.

Bhai Sahab, there are at least half a dozen Bollywood songs picturized in rain, where hero/heroine are singing about bheegi rut. They are obviously referring to the current weather, and not the full season. Aap phenka phaanki se perhaiz kiya karain

Re: Alternate words (check your vocabulary)

i don't think so, TLK...barkha rut = rainy season...you may consult a dictionary. :)

btw, Bollywood lyrics can't be a standard to judge the nuances of the language. they are too inferior and often devoid of grammars/linguistic finesse. they are not considered literary pieces.

I am not saying that barkha rut is not right, but rut can also be used for weather. Even a song of lata from 1952 has a title "aaj kee rut hai jawan", so rut has been in use for weather in Hindi songs for 60 years

Re: Alternate words (check your vocabulary)

no, a'm afraid not. you are bringing in examples from Bollywood and as i said before Bollywood is not the standard with which we change the meaning of any word. rut means season and not the current weather. current weather might fit the definition of a season but it never means what you are suggesting.

Hasrat Jaipuri, whose song I gave example of, was a proper Urdu poet.
