KARACHI: In what appears to be a major policy shift, Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has invited the Taliban to join hands with their fellow countrymen, instead of disassociating themselves from Pakistan.
“I ask the Taliban leaders that this country](http://www.dawn.com/2011/01/02/political-dynasties-have-to-come-to-an-end-altaf-hussain.html) came into being as a result of great sacrifices. Come and join Pakistanis…do not disassociate yourselves from Pakistan,” he said in a telephonic address at the 27th foundation day of the MQM on Friday.
The day was celebrated across Pakistan and Mr Hussain’s address was simultaneously relayed to 34 places in the country. Carrying MQM’s tri-coloured flags and portraits of Mr Hussain, a large number of people attended the main rally at Karachi’s Jinnah Ground.
Condemning the United States for drone attacks in tribal areas, Mr Hussain said that the US was violating Pakistan’s sovereignty and killing innocent people, adding that drone attacks were being carried out in clear violation of the UN charter.
He assured the government](http://www.dawn.com/2011/03/16/mqm-to-end-boycott-under-new-ppp-deal.html) and the armed forces that every Pakistani would support them if they took ‘meaningful steps’ with courage and bravery to stop drone strikes and part ways with the carrot-and-stick game of superpowers

:D but you need to give him credit, no main stream party is opposing the drones vehemently! its only some noises here and there and then they keep looking the other way when america is carrying out the strikes.

^Hey Captain, Arleitter spends half his day on GS or scavenging all sorts of Pakistani newspapers/other blogs etc in pursuit of juicy topics for his threads and, I guess, some "information." He is not so naive that he would not know who is the "saviour of Sindh" and who is not. :)

mqm has the image problem (due to its past), as far as weapons and killing in karachi is concerned mqm is a part of the problem but there are other stake holders too. MQM should try to improve their image regarding bhatta khori and terrorism, and then they might get some seats in the rest of the country as well because at the moment there is lot of depression in the country and there is no leader in sight so people might try other people in the next elections. If Imran Khan plays his cards correctly he might get some seats too on the expense of PMLN in NWFP and Punjab and some other parties too.

and to all the mqm terrorists on this board, look at how your 'baaas' altaf hussain is begging the taliban to join pakistan? hahaha! and now all of a sudden afia siddique became the 'daughter' of pakistan who was unjustly prosecuted and charged too! altaf bhai would sell his mother to make sure he does not lose his fan base. he knows his pitho-ism to the west will cause him to lose his fanbase/bhattabase, so hes now started looking towards the taliban and anti-amreekanism.

This is the catch-22 with people of Pakistan (atleast those posting here). If somebody speaks of a route to some peace, everyone is all over that leader for whatever past sins they committed; but then there isn't one leader in the Pakistani landscape that doesn't have a sordid past.
There is no real solution then! so they just cycle through party A, party B then army and then back to square 1. I wonder why some college students don't get together and create a new party - fresh untainted youth is probably the only salvation I think
