ok ppl might not like my answer but here it goes.. i asked one of my family members this once who lived in karachi when this MQM was formed.. he said that before MQM, pashtuns had gained a lot of power in karachi. they used to harass everybody and whoever they had a beef wid, would get beat up by a bunch of pashtuns or get killed and no body could say anything coz the pathans were too organized and strong.. the mohajirs said enough is enough and formed a party of their own called Muhajir Quomi Movement.. this was in opposition of pashtuns who harassed ordianry ppl majority of them being muhajirs.. so there's the story for u. if ths story is true, MQM has ironically become the same thing it was formed to counter.. a GANG!! a gang full of filthy goons worse than animals..
P.S i'm neither pashtun nor muhajir and got nuthin against any of those groups..
Only a Karachiite would know what kind of work MQM has done to improve the face of Karachi. Karachi's mayor was voted top 10 mayors of the world but I didn't see a mayor of lahore or even any other south asian city. Altaf Hussein has been promoting young talent and it was thanks to him Mustafa Kamal got a chance to shine.
I was just wondering what will be the fate of MK if he ever disagrees with AH... what will be the colour of bori in which he will be eventually found..????

MQM is still supported by people of Karachi because We people of Karachi have trying PPP and PML when Nawaz Sharif was PM of Pakistan It was the WORST time ever in Karachi police were literally killing every one ,
benazir came in power all they did was to appoint Sindhis every where they could and the NAARA of ROTI KAPRA MAKAN was only for sindhis even that time PML was in Opposition and very strong ..
people of karachi and the city were neglected completely, Since 1947 Mahajirs like me think do we really fit in this Country of 4 Provinces ?
A person Migrated from Delhi in 47 will be called what ? sindhi punjabi pathan baloch , NO He will still be called Mahajir and we are still part of Pakistan but we dont have any province ....

Clad, you can support whoever you want, but bear in mind, others will judge you on that -- rightly or wrongly. The organization you support has a terrible reputation and is known for stirring ethnic hatred. You automatically qualify for guilt by association -- others, who're perfectly rational people, will suspect that you're an ethnic bigot -- rightly or wrongly.
As for the Karachi not getting its due right, I think every city besides Islamabad ought to have that grievance.
On Delhi, my own ancestors born, lived and worked there but now they consider themselves purely Pakistani.
To have an ethnic-pressure group is fine but to have AND support an ethnic political party that behaves like a violent mafia is inviting hatred from your fellow countrymen.

And yes, so MQMers think PML[N] in Punjab rigs elections to win, so why cant we safely assume the MQM rigs elections to win the 15 or so seats in Karachi/Hyd. One of the staunchest MQM supporters on this website himself admitted that his vote was cast without him even going to the polling booth, and remember the infamous youtube MQM rigging videos 
This is how they win elections. Also, if they are so loved by the people, why do they have to forcibly collect bhatta?

FYI, all my maternal family is mohajir but none of my maternal family has ever supported MQM mafia because they are well aware of their crimes. The only people I have seen supporting this mafia in real life are really those who cannot read / write or even are able to write their signatures. I am witnessed to this. I am always shocked when I hear people saying that there is some educated lot too in this party.
And all of my maternal family are proud Pakistanis because after 1947 all the people who were in Pakistan are Pakistanis regardless of where they came from or their ethnicity.

My ancestors were from Delhi as well I was born in London but moved to Khi very young age And I am a proud Pakistani but read ANY BOOK WRITTEN ABOUT PAKISTAN it will never mention any mahajir only 4 provinces I am from Sindh but not Sindhi why am I not part of it …
@ Ambassador , I would never Vote for any political party in pakistan I am always in favor of Dictatorship but the question asked was why some elements support MQM I told him the reason PML N and PPP have been in power and we saw the chaos in karachi when they were ruling.
