If it's only about baat samajhna it's fine, and in a way ur right.
I dun know for sure whether Iqbal named his poem tarana-e-hind or hindi, and why he did so over 100 years back, and it's not that big a deal for me either.
my only point is, as an Indian girl, I know for a fact that in today's day and age u dun refer to an Indian as a Hindi. and i'd believe it if an expert on ethnic studies or something told me so rather than someone here who - try as hard as they might, dun make any sense with their psychobabble.
heck, i dun know why was i wasting my time with someone who's the moderator for the religion forum but does not know that hindi and urdu are written in two distinctively different scripts. obviously i know better than that now.

^ beta jee when did i tell u that hindi is written in the same script as urdu, i am telling u that hindi means indian in urdu....
hindi language is not even under discussion here....
it was about iqbal, an urud poet, so why bring hindi language into it....

Hindu means a person who believes in Hinduism. Hindi means an Indian. I think its clear now.

Its ironical that the poem penned by poet Iqbal - the most anti-indian guy is sung by billions of indians as their national song

arab is a place, arabi is not just a language of arab, its also the person who lives in arab.... persia is a place, persian is a language and so r the people of persia called persian....
the same pattern applies for hind as well....

Punjab is a state and Punjabi is language so are the people who live there .
similarly, bengali, gujrati, kashmiri , marathi ,sindhi etc.
this rule doesnt apply everywhere. but mostly people are known by the language they speak atleast in the subcontinent. Cuz language is the most outstanding difference between "US" who live in almost similar culture.
And to the kid who is confused by the concept of nationality.
Even M A Jinnah was an indian by birth and i dont think he every denied that. It was only after he founded a homeland for a portion of people he became pakistani. He was born as an Indian and died as a Pakistani.
Now Iqbal sahib born and died in India so that makes him an Indian which should not be an issue cuz by all means he can be remembered and honored as a great leader/poet by both the countries. You can be proud of him despite the fact that he was an Indian .

^ The very fact that he proposed a separate homeland cuz he thought muslims belong to a different "nation" and not India makes him anti-indian.. He always believed muslims would not safe with majority Indians (Hindhoos)
