Taraanah-e-Hindi (Anthem of an Indian)
Saarey Jahaan Se Acha Hai Hindustan Hamaara
Our India is better than the whole universe
Ham Bulbulen Hain Iski Yeh Gulistan Hamaara
We are its nightingales and it our garden.
Ghurbat Mein Hon Agar Ham Rehta Hai Dil Watan Mein
Even when in foreign lands our heart remains in our motherland.
Samjho Vaheen Hameen Bhi Dil Ho Jahaan Hamara
Therefore consider us where our heart is.
Parbat Woh Sab Se Ooncha Hamsaaya Aasmaan Ka
*The highest of all mountains, a neighbour of the heaven*sky
Vo Santari Hamara, Who Paasbaan Hamara
It is our guardian, it is our protector
Godi Mein Khelti Hain Uski Hazaaron Nadiyaan
In it’s lap play thousands of rivers
Gulshan Hai Jin Ke Dam Se Rashk-E-Jinaan Hamara
Due to which our garden is flourishing and is our pride.
Ae Aab-E-Rood-E-Ganga, Woh Din Hai Yaad Tujh Ko
Oh honoured River Ganges do you remember the day?
Utra Tere Kinaarey Jab Kaarvaan Hamaara
When our caravan reached your banks?
Mazhab Nahein Sikhata Aapas Mein Bair Rakhna
Religion does not teach hatred
Hindi Hain Ham Watan Hai Hindustan Hamara
We are Indians and India is our country
Yunaan-O-Misr-O-Roma Sab Mit Gaey Jahaan Se
Greece and Egypt and Rome have all perished
Ab Tak Magar Hai Baaki Naam-O-Nishaan Hamaara
But we continue to flourish
