Re: All Those Who Call Musharraf a Dictator
I have considered him a moderate dictator (before and after this decision) ![]()
Don’t forget that on March 9, 2007 he tried to dictate the CJ, don’t forget LFO and amendments in the constitution, and that he did not fulfill his promise of taking off the ‘wardi’.
It is because of the immense pressure, developed by:
(a) public protests against his move on March 9,
(b) he did not have sincere/full support among his own mates in this case. They filed incompetent evidences, and careless statements (with incorrect dates etc.), which 'd have lowered his moral and dare for taking more risks. He himself once publicly spoke of the lack of support from Q-League fellows.
that made him NOT to influence Supreme Court on this matter any more.
I also don’t consider Ch. Iftikhar an angel either. But people like him (with light corruption in his record) are so many that their wrong-doings look NORMAL to the public. In Musharaf’s time, Judiciary has made some remarkable decisions as well, but there have been monitoring by intelligence agencies and other kind of interferences. Overall, there has been partly dictatorship and partly independence in the Judiciary - and thus for me he is a moderate dictator.
As far as ‘independent media’ is concerned, i have some reservation on that too. There is no doubt media has seen unprecedent independence in his time. I won’t have doubted on this good move by Musharaf, BUT to the extent he obeys US orders, i see it from a different perspective. I think, most probably, media is given so much relaxation as part of efforts to end extremism, bring in US-dictated-enlightenment, and spread ‘bay-hayai’/vulgarity (again to end extremism or religious influences).
ps. These are just my opinions … no offense to anyone.
Re: All Those Who Call Musharraf a Dictator
Protest by people, parties and media did not help CJ. If Supreme Court was influenced by it than we are in more trouble than ever before. Fact of the matter is, this verdict would have happened if the protest was not there by lawyers and political parties.
Re: All Those Who Call Musharraf a Dictator
true... supreme court verdicts should have zilch to do with public sentiments, otherwise you have a judiciary hostage to the loudest voices
Re: All Those Who Call Musharraf a Dictator
the protests etc probably did keep mushie and co from hatching schemes to circumvent the SC. people here have talked about the govt having the option of martial law. that and other similar idiocy that dictators in the past HAVE resorted to was made infeasible by the public outcry.
Re: All Those Who Call Musharraf a Dictator
no leg to stand on, perhaps that is why the non dictator is shaking in his boots trying to keep wardi and sadarat. long live intelligence!
Re: All Those Who Call Musharraf a Dictator
He is a dictator!
