Below is one of my posts in the Doctors.net.uk forum, a closed forum only for Doctors. Lot of medical jargon but I hope most of you will understand the gravity of this situation after reading this.
*One consideration in any public health emergency is what will be the knock on effects?
We are talking about an infection with an R0 of at least 2, a major morbidity rate of 12%, a case fatality rate of 6% & zero herd immunity. Grasp the fact that exponential growth has resumed outside China, that new cases are running at 4,000 per day (11th doubling) & unless human behaviors change radically across the world then in 45 days time that will reach 1 million per day. It will infect at least half the world's population, & the CFR is likely to rise toward the 12% in areas that cannot provide care or where services are overwhelmed. For the planet that means some 250 million deaths & for the UK alone, approaching 2 million.
There will be domino effects asresources are depleted and other things cannot be dealt with. Shortages, recriminations & moral panics can cause civil unrest & opportunistic scapegoating can be exploited for grabs at power or territory.
For a supremely ironic example, the long-suffering Democratic Republic of Congo celebrated discharging its last Ebola patient this week, just in the nick of time as the money from the WHO had run out. Yesterday the DRC diagnosed its first case of SARS-2 infection. If that now goes rampant there the bank account is empty, all the PPE used & burnt.
I do not want to hear any more complacency. The virus has been 3 weeks ahead of every single response todate. We are standing beside an abyss &need to be proactive to avoid falling in.*
Its been two weeks since the virus infected people arrived in Karachi - have they passed onto the local population? This coming week is crucial. If there are no widespread infection - then we can assume that warmer weather is killing the virus. But the 1918 Spanish Flu virus entered India in the hottest month of June - leading to 20 million deaths all over India!
Very useful and to the point. While I don’t understand the jargon, got the essence.
Thanks Southie. And yes, may ALLAH keep everyone safe. Tough times indeed.
When our fellow @batameez started writing about victims and the effects of virus I really thought its not as much as its projected but boy I was wayy wrong.
as of now,
And besides that, a huge chaos in shopping areas and fights over buying of remaining Toilet paper, hand santizer etc. Actually there arent any santizers left
So yes, everyone stay safe and alive. Do whatever you can to help yourself and others prevent this. May ALLAH bless us with mercy and forgive our sins. Aameen.
It is so sad how everyone is gone so mental and supermarkets are completely empty, I mean come on. Feel sad for the elderly, those with babied and those who survive on little money each week to survive, people are so selfish buying things which would last them more than a year, rather than sharing them with others. Humans.

Restored attachments:
I think it feels real once we or our loved ones are in or near the areas where there are Coronavirus cases. The first time I took it seriously was when the first case in Bahrain was discovered cuz I knew it’ll be here in no time.
All educational institutions have been closed here too. Ban on gatherings more than 50 people. One city on lockdown.
There’s no chaos in markets yet.
I try to read them thrice in the morning and thrice in the evening but I miss the second dua sometimes ![]()
Is it possible that the low numbers are because of lack of proper testing for covid ?
Things will clear in this week if the infection has been passed to local people we will definitely see a very sharp increase in number of infections and possible deaths as Karachi is one of the most densely populated cities. I hope the heat is killing it - temperature will rise to 34 this week in Karachi.
Iranians are digging mass grave secretly and burying their dead covering up true number of fatalities, for every death in the community, there may be about 200 undiagnosed cases. The situation is much worse than it seems or made out to be.
Well said.

A lot of things changed for us over the weekend.
Restaurants, bars etc are strictly prohibited do dine-in, only takeouts are allowed
Gatherings over 50 people are banned.
Mosques are now closed including a stop for regular five days prayer congregations.
Schools are closed for atleast 2 weeks.
NY governor has strictly asked private businesses to let people work from home otherwise they can get in trouble.
Panic, panic everywhere
This behaviour is beyond panic. I don't know what it's like in other parts of the world but here in the West..... Pf. Those who are already the most vulnerable of society are suffering even more.
I have read/heard comments on how mental alot of people have become during this virus outbreak, so how will they behave when dajjal comes during drought and famine. Hmm something to think about.
Ramadan starts in a couple of weeks, so with all this free time might as well prepare for this month. Idk why it feels abit like the people of the Cave in surah al Kahf, like some kind of wake up call. It's good most people will be at home for the next couple of weeks, I get it, but idk if I can say the same thing for my mental wellbeing. It feels suffocating already, let's hope I'll manage to stay somewhat sane facepalm
I respectfully would state that this is not panic. This should have been done 3 weeks ago. An ounce of prevention is something something as the saying goes. This is a pandemic. The panic part is people hoarding stuff. That is selfish behavior. I could not even get milk and yogurt, let alone rubbing alcohol and Kleenex. Because people buy way more than they need. As madmoiselle says this adversely affects the poor.
