SUKKUR: Whether they belong to any community, all the people living in Sindh are Sindhis and they should fill in the column of mother language of the census form as ‘Sindhi’ for the prosperity of the province because further distribution of resources and the NFC Award will be in accordance with the population census.
This was stated by Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani while addressing a press conference at the press club of Jacobabad on Saturday evening. He was accompanied by provincial minister Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani and all MPAs belonging to Jacobabad district, including Mir Aurangzeb Khan Panhwar, Dr Sohrab Sarki and Saira Shehalyani.
MNA Aijaz Jakhrani said the forthcoming population census had especial importance for the people of Sindh, therefore, the elected public representatives, media and people belonging to civil society should create awareness among the masses about the importance of population census. He said the attitude of the National Database & Registration Authority (Nadra) was not suitable with the Sindhi people because several people in Sindh were deprived of computerised national identity cards (CNICs).
In replying to a question, Mr Jakhrani said that for the success of the operation launched against terrorists on the borders of Sindh and Balochistan, the border force should be organised for which a meeting would be held with the Sindh chief minister.
Provincial minister Mumtaz Jakhrani on the occasion said that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah struggled hard for the provision of modern facilities to the Sindh police.
Earlier, MNA Jakhrani presided over a meeting in the DC office of Jacobabad about various development schemes in the district.
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
Beg to differ! People should state truth. NFC award is one of many things. there are far reaching results of a properly done survey, to understand many things that Govts over the years plan for etc. People who speak urdu must write urdu and if it means they will come out to be a sizeable number which may make sense to drop Karachi from Sindh in to its province, than so be it, people who speak Punjabi must write such so, etc. Census is not just to count population of provinces but to collect correct statistics. The PPP MNA is trying to make a serious topic rather simple but he wont go too far with it. Also I think he is worried about National Assemble / Provincial Assembly seats. A correct population of karachi / Hyderabad will surely increase representation of Karachi/Hyderabad in assemblies and most probably will win by MQM/Spin off of MQM urdu speaking parties. There is nothing wrong with giving correct representation to a group of people. Yes It may make PPP’s strangehold on Sindh even less but so be it .
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
I dont think that is True or entire True. If some pathans and mohajirs who live in Punjab call them Punjbai thats on them, they are not forced to do so and it just means they assimilated for business, culture or whatever reason. However, you need to go in details to figure this out. My understanding is that Muhajirs that came from UP/Hyderabad or urdu speaking areas mostly were settled in Karachi/Hyderabad, where as the ones who came to Punjab were Punjabies from Indian side of Punjab. To this date, there is a sizeable Urdu speaking community in Lahore and Gujranwala and I actually know few of them. They may vote PMLN or PPP , may speak Punjabi but they are urdu speaking and more or less identify as such which is correct. For Pathans in Punjab, I will be very very surprised if they truly identify themselves as Punjabies. There is a pathan belt in Mianwali area who speak their language and identify as such, same goes for Baloch people around Dera Gazi Khan etc. They speak their language and identify as such (Siraiki, etc.)
In short, I dont think large majority of Pathan or Urdu speaking living in Punjab identify themselves as punjabi (rightfully so)
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
As per logic of the minister, dumb and deaf people should fill in their forms???
These are the things which have shelved PPP in a regional party, so what if there are additiinal provinces, iam all fir dividing Punjab in at least three administrative units you may call provinces…
Yesterday Farooq Sattar expressed his concerns over the census and looks like he have geniune concerns
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
I think the NFC award is based on population of provinces not based on the language they speak. If some one speak urdu , punjabi or sindhi or any other lanuage , if his/her permanent address is in SINDH , then should be counted under sindh population and be considered as sindhi. ( even having any mother tongue )
Minister should educate people to get their NIC or correct NIC so that correct count is done province wise.
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
Totally disagree with the MNA
Myopic thinking by PPP.
Not everyone who lives in Sindh speaks Sindhi (or is expected to!) just like not everyone who lives in Punjab speaks Punjabi or is expected to speak the language.
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
^ I dont see any problem for all people living in Khi or any part of sindh to be registered as SINDHI. Infact they are registered as sindhi in the national census . SO Sindhi banna nahi parey ga they are sindhi . But why to force for mother tongue to be defined as sindhi rather than urdu or punjabi , pushto or any other langauge ???
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
There has no problem with other communities living in Sindh rural,
The new system of posting news item through ‘insert image’ does not allow me to post. However it says that Punjabis living in Samaro (rural Sindh) has pledged that they will declare as Sindhis in census and write their mother tongue as Sindhi.
Following is the is the reaction of one of the participant in the discussions under “Sindh Vision”
"It is a great gesture.
We may have lots of complaints from Punjabi elite of Punjab but the Punjabi settled here, specially in rural area have amalgamated and mixed them in Sindh and Sindhi culture to reasonable extent. It is no drifting from topic if I quote that the Bhattis, Bhuttos, Khokhar, Arain, Mendhro, Kamboh etc. are as good as original Sindhis. It is a hard fact that unlike Urdu speaking people, Punjabis have never indulged in any bloody feud with Sindhis. The similar is the position of Pakhtoons, we popularly call Pathans. The much famed Duranis and Yousifzais etc. are ready examples. Though the mischievous figure like Nawab Muzaffar of Hyderabad tried his best to tie with Punjabi and Pashtoons making ‘Sindh Mohajir, Punjabi, Pathan Mutahida Mahaz’ in penultimate end of 60s gaining strength in 70s but to no response. SMPPMM was finally eliminated by the fascism of MQM"
Re: ‘All Sindh residents should write Sindhi in language column of census form’
Most of the people who came from India are now dead. The only way forward for their off spring is to mingle with the people of Sindh otherwise the risk of a serious bloodshed will always loom. The negativity of the leaders of the people who came from India is never ending till today.
