All over for Morsi?

Some elements are portraying this as a tussle between the religious and the liberals, which is far from truth. This is an all out effort to remove the incompetents, who made this period of governance to be worst ever in their recent past. The economic condition of the people and the country deteriorated quickly during this time while Morsi kept trying to gain more control and power by confiscating civil liberties. After long turmoil in Egypt, people are impatient and want quick solution to their problems. A lot of people on the streets now have voted for Morsi in the last elections. This is first hand information from my Egyptian friends working in Pakistan.

Re: All over for Morsi?

I hope Nawaz Sharif is following the events in Egypt, the same could be his fate in one year's time. As like you have aptly mentioned Morsi was chosen last year to improve the economy of the country and bring improvement in the lives of the people. Failing in that, he is being opposed fervently as well.

These armies are being burden for republics and democracies.....

whenever such army face a stronger opponent they surrender their weapon....

instead of such army a militia of patriotic citizens is better for the nation IMO......

Re: All over for Morsi?

Seeing the events of Egypt today, this picture came to my mind. It seems as if Egypt is going to go down a steeper trajectory as compared to Pakistan.

Re: All over for Morsi?

Instead of issuing ultimatums, I would have liked to see the Army standing firmly behind an elected president. The role of agile 'third force' in the shape of army could be a destabilizing factor in Egypt, knowing that it is interested in appearing as a third force, rather than a subordinate to an elected government.

Besides, I feel Mursi should have served a show cause notice on his army chief for issuing ultimatum to his government. That should have sent strong signals all across the world about the power and legitimacy of an elected leader.

Re: All over for Morsi?

Funny that majority of Pakistanis do not vote for Islamist parties, yet they wish for Islamist parties winning everywhere else in the world.

Mursi proved what kind of extremist he is when he attended meeting of fellow extremists who called anyone opposing him an infidel. Typical Talibanic mentality. They don’t just consider Shias infidels but also the Sunnis as well.

these extremists know no compromise.

Army saw which path Mursi was taking the country, and so it is planning to intervene.

mr. Mursi even wanted Egypt to go to syria to fight Assad, even though he has caused Egyptian economy to go down the abyss. Priorities. Priorities.

Morsi role at Syria rally seen as tipping point for Egypt army - The Irish Times - Tue, Jul 02, 2013
Army concern about the way President Mohamed Morsi was governing Egypt reached tipping point when the head of state attended a rally packed with hardline fellow Islamists calling for holy war in Syria, military sources have said.
At the June 15th rally, Sunni **Muslim clerics used the word “infidels” to denounce both the Shias fighting to protect Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and the non-Islamists that oppose Mr Morsi at home.

**
Mr Morsi himself called for foreign intervention in Syria against Mr Assad, leading to a veiled rebuke from the army…

The army has cited the need to avoid bloodshed as its main motivation. It is also worried by other major problems facing Egypt, including an economic crisis that has wiped **out more than a tenth of the value of the currency this year, **making it harder for the state to import fuel and food.

For the army, the Syria rally had crossed “a national security red line” by encouraging Egyptians to fight abroad, risking creating a new generation of jihadists, said Yasser El-Shimy, analyst with the International Crisis Group.

Re: All over for Morsi?

I agree. It feels like Egypt today is where Pakistan was in mid 70 to late 70s. Military coups seldom bring anything good.

Re: All over for Morsi?

Its question of raw power (which military has) & not the constitutional/power/debates (which theoretically Morsi has).

Re: All over for Morsi?

Egypt’s biggest issue today is economy. Yet Morsi, like a typical religious leader, is overlooking it.

Egypt’s ailing economy is at the heart of the unrest

well if he had delivered economically, he would not be facing this day.

A coup is inevitable. In fact an advisor to Morsi has said that Coup is underway.

Re: All over for Morsi?

A lot of women have been raped. Here is one encouraging fatwa for rapists:

Egypt’s ailing economy is at the heart of the unrest
An Egyptian Salafi preacher said raping and sexually harassing women protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square is justified, calling them “crusaders” who “have no shame, no fear and not even feminism.”

In an online video posted Wednesday, Ahmad Mahmoud Abdullah, known as “Abu Islam” and owner of the private television channel of “al-Ummah,” said these women are no red line.

“They tell you women are a red line. They tell you that naked women – who are going to Tahrir Square because they want to be raped – are a red line! And they ask Mursi and the Brotherhood to leave power!,” he said.

Abu Islam added that these women activists are going to Tahrir Square not to protest but to be sexually abused because they had wanted to be raped.

People like him are disgrace to Islam and humanity. I can’t believe any human being could justify rape, let alone the one who considers himself the real Muslim.
Unfortunately, not only does he consider himself the true Muslim but most of the world also considers people like him the true representatives of Islam, and thus they consider Islam an evil religion.
