When I recently went back to the gym...I did notice something funny. The exercises that worked for me before arent working anymore. When I was about 19 or so, I could do 100 crunches a day and have the flattest abs but no more. It has to do with age and your body I think.
The way Im built, Ive got to keep switching it around a lot so my body keeps working. Running on a treadmill doesnt do it for me all the time. There are days when Ive done three different cardio exercises for 15 minutes each in one workout.
Also, with time our metabolism slows down people! Its SOOO sad but true. That chocolate shake will take you longer to burn off now than it did a couple of years ago. :( Thats one reason you see a lot of "skinny" people getting "heavier" in their later years...if they have bad eating habits it catches up with them.
We can diet and lose weight for now but in the long run it has to be a lifestyle change.
That is interesting observation. I know after a while one exercise is not use full. then you switch to a different routine for same body part.
Its called cross training, Its very important/useful for athlete. So be happy you have been training like an athlete. Sista
You are like decade away for that phenomena. Get this I have played soccer with father team mates in pakistan. Those guys still have same physical shape as they were in their 20s.
So I guess ppl do get heavy in their later age because they become LAZY.
not all fish hav mercury.tunas, pink salmons etc r safe even during preg u can hav them.also fish oil capsules with omega 3 r safe n highly recommended for good overall health as far as i know.
i meant to say canned light tunas n salmons hav safer/lower mercury content
A question to the "healthy" ladies.....were you "healthy" since childhood or is it a more recent development?
since childhood...I have been swimming, dancing, exercising and playing sports since I was a kid. My dad exercised and walked every day and was a very healthy eater. I got it from him. I've never restricted my diet...(once went vegan but it only made me look like I was a war orphan) I try and keep my weight within a certain range and I do not want to go below it otherwise I both look and feel sick.
When I started working I stopped sports and dancing because I never had time and started using the gym...Gyms are kinda boring because where dancing and sports are actually fun activities, going to the gym feels like a 'task' and it is hard to motivate yourself for it. I do enjoy being able to lift weights because it really helps make you stronger and more toned.
im taking 'healthy' here to mean that we perceive ourselves as being at a good healthy weight? some individuals like to refer to heavy people as healthy...a more polite way than saying 'fat'...Im wondering now if you meant the latter or the former?
I would class myself as ‘moti’ amd when I have gone to Pakistan, I have been referred to as the ‘healthy one’. I don’t even get referred to by my name.
I have hormonal problems at times, and go to the gym a few times a week. I try to eat healthily, but still I find it difficult to lose weight:bummer:
In my experience, there is no set recipe for everyone to follow to lose weight. Yes, you should eat healthy and exercise to lose weight but sometimes you have to go the extra mile to shed pounds or just tweak things in your specific diet.
What kind of food do you eat? Have you ever counted your calories? What kind of exercises do you do?
For me, I go to the gym in the morning because it helps me keep my mind on track for the rest of the day. The day hasnt started yet so I havent had the chance to eat unhealthy. I can work out and then feel stupid if I eat bad because I will have wasted all that effort.
Working out in the morning keeps your energy constant all day. Your eating and sleeping habits change too. This also affects weight loss. When you're working out in the morning, your day starts early and ends early. You tend to get tired around 9pm or so and then start winding down. Your dinner should ideally be around 7pm or 8pm and then hit the sheets around 9pm or 10pm. Try not to eat after dinner because you wont have a chance to burn that food off, you're going straight to bed and that fried chicken is going straight to your thighs.
Exercising in the evening can be just as effective if you make sure you keep your focus. I get lazy in the evening/night so it doesnt work for me. But I used to work for a gym as a PT and found it busiest around 6am - 9am and then from 5pm - 7pm. So, if you cannot work out in the morning, do it in the evening or around your lunch hour. A woman's energy peaks around 2pm or so...last time I checked.
Another obstacle people face is::::what to do when you get to the gym? For this, try taking coordinated classes. These are my new love! I love my Pilates, Barbell Strength and Total Conditioning classes. My gym offers them and it takes a load off my shoulders because I can plan out my day, know exact times and I dont have worry about figuring out my exercises, someone's done it for me! For those girls who dont like to jump around in a brightly lit room full of people, take weight training classes and do 30 - 40 minutes of cardio after.
Losing weight is a connection between your mind and body...you have to think about it as a priority to make it work.
A fitness regimen that works for one person might not work for another.. same thing with diets. The cabbage soup diet works well for me (quick weight-loss) but so many people said it never worked for them.

gina,
what recipe did you use for the cabbage diet? what results did you get? and how long did you do it for?
Champa, it's not a great diet for long-term use.. I made the cabbage soup and added onion soup mix to it along with loads of veggie's! I lost 8kgs in a month.. and that was my target :)
count me in........ i have to lose A LOT!!
for me is not the diet...... for me is the motivation to continue the diet and the work out........ i do it for a month.... and when i see i lost some weight..... i get lazy again and gain all the weight i have lost....... its crazy but i can't help it...... i just lose interest............
help me............ how to motivate myself!!!! :(:(
Seriously I cant.
Little brother use to lose weight like crazy, 8km+ runnig every day in pakistani summer.
And then in off season he use to eat sweet like crazy to gain all the weight back.
I used to get me so mad. I asked him don't you like your self?
Why putting your self in so much trouble OR why destroying all your effort with bad eating habits.
Sorry But I don't know how to put that in more polite way, since I feel strongly about it.
Anyone can lose weight...but motivation is the key...
Like PS said, you have to make it a priority. Dont get sick thinking about it but make sure it's somwhere at the top of your head when you reach for something fattening. Just that can stop you from eating unhealthy and one day after another, when you see the pounds shedding, the motivation keeps getting bigger n bigger. It did the trick for me last year and I lost about 8 kgs in 2 months and didn't find it tough either. Now, I have to get back in shape. I have gained back 5 of that 8 kgs and it isnt a pretty picture on the weighing machine for sure. I know that I did it once so I can definitely do it again and this time for good inshaAllah!
count me in ...i started a little while ago...just eating right...but have to start going to the gym again, i use to run 4-5 miles a day...but thats was back in aug. have to get back to that. iA will start running agian.
not vegetarian...I went vegan. Vegans dont eat meat, dairy, eggs and fish. only eat mostly raw veggies.
You do know (if you beleive in evolution) that our brains evolved because monkey's (for whatever reason) start eating red meat. That gave the brain the capacity to start thinking bigger / better than animals. Its true you CAN get the same proteins from beans and such - but you will really have to make an effort everyday to make sure you get what your body needs.
Everything is best in limits - you really should re-consider that philosphy.

Curious - why you went that way?
.....from what I have learned ... "monkeys" evolved to humans when they started using tools, devloped culture (as a result developed the opposing thumb that allowed them to develop tools?...).
....and meat eating might not be bad on its own but with todays world population it is probably necessary to genetically modify foods? ...it is true that animals are overhunted/fished, kept in bad conditions, fed disgusting food and injected with hormones. it bothers me...but i think going vegan is very hard especially when everyone around you is eating meat...plus it can work only if you take the time out to properly proportion your meals to get enough protein. i dont want to be constantly thinking of food and i dont want to feel isolated socially because of my food choices.
