I love long hair and it was fun to have those updos. Dolled up for the first time in my life, I didn’t want to put down my hair at all. 
They do put in extentensions if the bride has short hair but the added weight just brings on a headache. It would be good to have bit of a length and healthy hair. The high updo is necessary as it has to bear the weight of the dupatta. I only regret the fact that I did not put in a fancy hair accessory. I love them but but couldn’t find a decent one at that time. I did get to put in flowers.
cherrybell, it is actually pretty easy to undo your hair after everything is over with a bit of conditioner and a wide toothed comb. Ask your MUA to give you a hairstyle that is convertible if you think you’ll put down your dupatta at the end of the night. I don’t really recommend that but you can do as you wish.
