phatima, even i used to think that i’d be very shy to dance, but once u r there along with your frds and teachers, u will get on that dance floor without even realizing it :d
it’s just one night with all your frds, so enjoy it … and don’t worry, no matter what you do with your hair or dress, u will look pretty; every girl does on their prom night

aw thanks! The curls took about 45 minutes....She didn't axactly curl my hair...she blow dried and used some special technique and that's how the turned out....but no curlers or hot iron....
I think it was arounddd 70 bucks with a haircut!

Nope, I'm really not going to dance lol.
And I don't know if you all know this or not... but times have probably reallyyyyy changed since you all went to prom. Frankly, high school kids dancing looks very much like 2 animals having sex. (in all seriousness). It's disgusting. I'd rather not be a part of that. I'm just going to see my friends dressed up and have a fun time.

I think with this heavy sari u should keep it low on ur makeup and hairstyle try to make it simple yet elegant and stylish if u r wearing large earings dont wear a neckless or a lot of bangles n stuff....

^ yea the only jewelry i'm wearing is the earrings. the sari isn't that heavy. it's pretty simple. just the back of the shirt is really covered in kaam.
i think when i go to get my makeup done i'll tell them to just do dark eyes and light (not too light) lips.

Traditional proms = dating. guys and girls mixing, dirty dancing, even having sex on prom night. Girls dressed in backless/strapless/sometimes chestless dresses (j-lo's versace dress anyone? :@: ), not to mention alcohol...that's what makes a prom "haram." Of course a person can go, dressed properly, not dance and just have fun with friends but a stricter interpretation of hadith and Quran would entail that even attneding such a function is haram since u would be supporting it.
I'm just sayin.

traditional prom = first of, absolutely NO alcohol. most grade 12s r under 19. most people at my prom did not go with dates, but with friends. i have been to 2 proms, and have never seen, nor heard of any 'dirty dancing'. dressing depends on one's choice (some girls at my prom even had hijab on). and people have sex at after prom parties, not at the prom itself.
your interpretation of prom sounds like some paris hilton movie prom ... i don't know about usa, but our public high schools here are not similar to the one they showed in mean girls.

It all depends on the company you keep. For some people, prom is all about drinkings, after-parties, getting laid, etc. For others it's just a fun time to be with your friends for one of the last times before we all head off to college. I'm in the latter category. =)

No they might nto serve it or do it, but what abt the after-prom parties? I dunno man. years of reading Seventeen magazine + the prom issues , these were some of hte issues they dealt with. and by dirty dancing, cmon even "clean" dancing is not really allowed for Muslims if u think abt it. not to mention whats been shown in movies. prom itself is not haram, it's the activities that take place during and whatnot. anyways i'm not saying that noone shd go to prom, its not for Muslims etc...but just giving my reasons why some would say it is haram.

i understand what you are saying. but as phatima said, it all depends on the company you keep. prom itself is a nice and clean grad get together before they all move to different places for post secondary education. after-prom parties are same as many friday night college parties; not everyone going to college is a part of them.
as for calling it haram, i personally believe it's taking it a bit too far. but i guess everyone's entitled to their diff. opinions.

lol abh kya faida, mera waqt was 5 years ago…long gone. i even had the dress and all :hinna:
